“Romantic Getaway”
Reviewed June 19, 2012 via mobile

We spent three fantastic days of our anniversary trip in Quebec City and Maison du Fort. Maison du Fort was wonderful. It is a property quite near the St. Lawrence River and close to great restaurants and the lower town. Our room was beautiful, location was perfect, morning breakfast-starter was ideal, and Marielle was gracious and very helpful. If you are even remotely considering a visit to Quebec City, do it and make Maison du Fort your special getaway.

The location alone makes this auberge a great choice. But add to that the charming, friendly proprietoress, the cleanliness and the quaint decor, and you've got the recipe for a great visit.

The breakfast is nothing to write home about. (to be honest, it was probably the worst coffee I've had in recent memory). Some of the pastries/baked goods were non-descript and others were yummy. As an editorial comment, if ever a situation cried out for a Keurig coffee maker, this is it! For the style of "breakfast" offered, itwould work like a charm.

You can walk everywhere in Old Quebec from here. It's an excellent "home base".

Of course there are some *very* minor things that could be improved. The bathroom really needed a towel bar for hand towels and facecloths. Night tables, or at the very least, a bedside shelf would go a long way for guests needing somewhere to put their eye glasses or water glasses or the remote before dropping off to sleep. But obviously these are not deal breakers.

You can't go wrong staying here when you're visiting Quebec.

Our visit to the exquisite city of Quebec was made all the more delightful by our stay at Maison du Fort. The owner, Marielle, was so warmly welcoming. Our sunny room was spacious and comfortable, breakfast pastries were tasty, and while the inn is convenient to every attraction, at night it was blissfully quiet. Our children were welcomed as well, and especially enjoyed the inn's resident cats. Quebec has stolen our hearts!

We spent memorial day weekend in Quebec. We spent 2 nights here. The inn owner is a very friendly lady who loves cats. All the paintings are cats. Very cute. It is within old town upper town, steps to river and chateau Fontenac. We originally booked for 3 nights, but had to shorten the trip by a day. I called at last minute to cancel the last night booking. The policy is 7 day notice. But the inn lady was nice enough to charge only half for the last night. Overall it is a very pleasant experience.

We had been to Québec city before, even in Old Québec, but staying right there and walking all over the place was fabulous. Even the rain couldn't damper our spirits, we just huddled under the umbrella! :D
The Maison du Fort and our hostess Marielle made our stay even more unforgettable. Her warm hospitality is contagious and she made us feel welcome.
I will recommend this to anyone I know who plans to travel to Québec city. We would really love to go back.
Thanks Marielle!

Room Tip: We had room #5 and really enjoyed although my first choice would have been room #10. Maybe we'll...

This was a fantastic hotel, super romantic and charming. The wife and I loved it and it was worth the stairs for the view. Cant wait to stay there again.
