“What a gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

I've made the mistake over the years of staying at the larger hotels in Quebec but this year decided to try Le Clos St-Louis.

My only mistake is that I waited so long to do it. It is a small boutique hotel with charming rooms. They are more than ample in size both in the room and bathroom. During our stay, the outside temp was over 90F/32C, so I was concerned being in an older hotel what the room temp was going to be like. I became more concerned when I did not see a thermostat in the room.
Let's just say that the temp concern did not occur and we used a blanket at night.....seriously!!

The owner is truly a hands on owner. She is at the front desk and also the chef for the breakfast. The food is cooked to order and served in a delightful room. A previous reviewer described is as the basement implying that was a negative. I'll call it the lower level in a delightfully decorated room. Who cares what floor it is on. It's a small hotel!!

Also, the previous reviewer appeared to be complaining about no amenities such as turn down service. Le Clos St-Louis is significantly less expensive than the bigger hotels but it's location is to die for. If you know where the Chateau Frontenac is, well just head west up the same street two short blocks and you arrive at Le Clos St-Louis.

The staff is delightful. We will absolutely return. One hint.....if you are driving, when you make the room reservation, email the hotel that you need a parking spot reserved. The spots are on the back side of the hotel.

My husband took me here as a Christmas present and it was very special. We had a suite decorated like a palace, and I felt like a queen! The owner herself made us breakfast. We especially liked the French toast. It's in a great location, near all the old town sights. We were there during the Winter Carnival, so there was plenty to do!

This is a very pleasant hotel in an excellent location. While the breakfast was adequate, it is certainly not fantastic. Average coffee, orange juice not fresh squeezed, croissant reheated in the oven and French Toast that looked very much like an eggo waffle.
Nice yogurt parfait, but really nothing special, and the breakfast room is actually in the basement.
Room was clean and comfortable with a good 4-poster bed and functional air conditioning.
No evening turn-down, no newspapers, chocolates or any of the little extras you expect at a fine hotel. Was satisfied but not overwhelmed - hence the very good rating.

For all the beautiful things to see and fun things to do in Quebec City, the best part of every day for us was coming "home" to our room at Le Clos St-Louis. The owner has created a magnificent gem of a place. Comfortable and beautifully decorated room, all the amenities you need right there where you'd want them, delicious breakfasts, and an oasis of calm from the hustle and bustle outside. Most all of the sites of Quebec are in easy walking distance from the hotel - we were glad we had not rented a car. And the staff were very helpful with recommendations and reservations for meals and such. We stayed for five nights - wish every hotel could be this nice.

Room Tip: We were in room 23 which is on the third floor. There are no elevators, so if stairs are a challenge...

Once a year, we are going to visit Quebec city. This time, we were with my parents. Every time, we stay at the Clos St Louis. It is a very charming hotel and the owner Ghislaine is a very nice lady. Always here to help. The room are individually decorated with beginning of the century things. The breakfast is very nice too. The hotel is located in the center of the old city making it very convenient. They have the best bed I ever sleep on!!!

My wife and I recently enjoyed two nights @ the Hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis before boarding a cruise ship. A quick $30 cab ride from the airport delivered us inside the walls of Old Quebec City. We were cordially greeted by the long-time owner, Mademoissele Donais, and quickly made our way to our assigned room #8 so that we could begin exploring the city. Outstanding location...close proximity to very good restaurants & museums and approximately halfway between the Chateau Frontenac (easy 5 minute walk) and the Plains of Abraham (site of famous battle). Room #8 was very nice...clean, comfortable, and quiet (you'd be wise to close windows before falling asleep) on the 3rd floor with 2 windows to view the street below. Absolutely LOVED the owner's version of french toast for breakfast! After 2 wonderful nights, we exited the front door with our bags and walked about 20 feet (toward Chateau Frontenac) and waited for the Ecolobus to take us to the port in order to board the cruise ship. The Ecolobus is a small electric bus which operates in Old Quebec City and is a bargain for getting around this beautiful city.

Spent 2 nights in this beautiful city at this wonderful inn. It was a feeling when you walk in the front door that you take a step back in time...in a beautiful way. The home was located on St Louis street within walking distance of everything. A 5 minute walk through the arches and take a elevator ride (or walk down) to the beautiful old cobblesone streets of old Quebec at the boardwalk Frontenac and a spectacular view of the St Lawrence River. The terraces had just opened the night before and it was so hard to choose one restaurant over the other. The food was very pricey but delicious..it seemed the same on each menu for price. We took a horse and carriage ride around the city with a lovely young man Frederick. At only 21, he had all of the old history of this beautiful city and graciously shared it throughout the ride. The city was a buzz with graduations and proms and wedding celebrations. We sat at terrace for dinner and you could hardly eat with everything going on to watch around you. Our room (2 couples) were beautifully decorated old style with tall 4 poster beds and a small table with a beautiful teapot and cups. It had the old wooden shutters on the beautiful tall windows that you could shut at night. It was very quiet at night even with all the nightlife going on outside. The bathroom was very modern with a jacuzzi tub, very clean. The breakfast each morning was prepared by the owner of this lovely home, with soft music playing, she prepared the most delicious french toast and fresh fruit...it was so good I had it both days. We walked everywhere, enjoying several street performances including a harpist and guitar players. It was such a beautiful experience being there, we wished we could have stayed longer. We also visited St Anne's Basilica which was in the middle of a very busy business section about a 15 minute drive outside the city. There was a Mass going on and the choir was so lovely. We were glad we visited there. Overall, the best experience of our 8 day trip across Canada.

Room Tip: We had a room almost across from the desk and they shut a door in between and we never heard a thing...
