Hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis
Ranked #12 of 100 Hotels in Quebec City
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 14, 2012

My wife and I just returned from our trip to Quebec City and agreed a highlight was our stay at this unique property. Location within the walled city was excellent, the care, good taste (and I assume considerable expense) in the renovation/merging of the two original homes that comprise the hotel is evident at all levels. We booked late, the day before arrival with the owner, Ghislaine Donais who met us on arrival. Our room was on the 3rd floor, facing out the back (with a great view of a church steeple) and very quiet. Each room is named, our #9 the "maids room" and the room was nicely decorated and spacious. The circular stairway to our room was easy to navigate. The 2nd floor had a computer/printer for guets and Wifi worked well. We opted for the famous French Toast in the two mornings and understand its popularity. The owner's presence was an added benefit as she made us feel very welcome and appreciated. We, of course, toured the magnificent photogenic hotel down the street but, as an former senior hotel executive, I now opt for the smaller, owner-operated facilities with a solid reputation. We hated to leave (Ghislaine, my wife thinks her comments on the guest book aren't effusive enough) but this will be our home on a return visit. P.sS. New visitors - don't miss the Inuit exhibit at the national museum.

Room Tip: We slept with the windows open. And I would want to have a room in the back, high floor. Quiet, with...

We stayed here for two nights as a mini-honeymoon and could not have been happier with the experience. The hotel is a lovely four story house tucked squarely in the middle of Old Quebec. Parking is available at $20 per day just around the back of the hotel.

The house itself is richly decorated and the bed in our room (room 10 on the top floor) was very comfortable. The light was a bit dim in the room as the windows were small, but this wasn't a big deal since we walked outside so long that by the time we came back to the hotel it was dark anyway. The washroom was very spacious and quite clean. There was a jacuzzi tub but we didn't make use of it. Note that there is no elevator in the hotel and the staircase was narrow, so some people may have trouble climbing all the way up there.

Complimentary breakfast is included and the owner personally makes it for you, rather than a buffet which is a nice touch. There are a number of options including french toast, croissant, etc. and the french toast is absolutely delicious!

Overall it was a great experience. When we come back we would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Get the french toast for breakfast! It's unbelievably delicious.

Great little hidden place in quebec city. Awesome friendly service and staff incl.the owner who makes awesome breakfast. Unique rooms with all different motives and victorian style decorations.
We stayed in room 25 directly under the roof. It is a bit pricy, but.....

Room Tip: Select your own room, check it out.

I had a hospitable and convenient stay, at a perfect location that is a 5-minute walk from the Frontenac. The Clos does not have an elevator. There is a steep staircase that leads down to the breakfast room. The Clos's website has accurate photos of the rooms. I stayed in room #2 on the main floor. My bathroom was spacious and spotless, as was the whole property. Thoughtful amenities included a shaving/makeup mirror, hair dryer, large tub/shower with plenty of hot water, good towels, a comfortable queen bed, lots of bed pillows, a large-screen tv, and a clock radio. The staff were all kind and helpful. Breakfast is included-don't miss the world's best French toast. I did not have good weather for most of my visit to Quebec, but my stay at the Clos St-Louis was the bright spot.

Room Tip: Consider how many flights of stairs you want to climb. Ground floor rooms #1 and #2 were spacious an...

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Le Clos ST-Louis. The room (#1) was perfect and very clean. The Hotel was very Victorian and romantic and the Ghislaine and staff were so pleasant and helpful. Who wouldn’t want to stay at a place which was once owned by a generous wonderful Doctor of his time that was adored by everyone? I would definitely stay here again; it was centrally located to all the sights and shopping.

Room Tip: If you don't do stairs stay on the main floor, we had room #1 and it was perfect.

Having travelled extensively to four and five star accommodations, Hotel Le Clos St. Louis is definitely on the top of our list. Beautifully decorated in keeping with the history of the hotel.
Spotless..spotless. spotless. The intimate atmosphere of the boutique hotel was like a breath of fresh air compared to some of the larger hotels we have stayed at. The excellent breakfast was delightful and served downstairs, giving a feeling of truly being in another era. Peeking through the curtains to the quaint street below you instantly felt connected to yesteryear.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful.....Luke on reception gave us a wake up call at 3am to catch our flight on time - complete with a pot of coffee...could you ask for more?

We stayed three nights in Sept. 2012. The location is excellent being inside the walls. The hotel is on a great street with many good restaurants. The old city is small so any location inside the walls puts one within easy walking distance of all the major tourist sites. The small crew spoke English well and was very accommodating. The room was immaculate. The furnishings were authentic and tasteful. The breakfasts were superb. We were on the second floor, no elevator, on the street, and it was not particularly noisy. In fact we liked being able to watch the weather and activity of the street from our room. The bathroom was modern. We have friends who were staying in the Chateau Frontenac and we visited and compared each others rooms. The Frontenac room did not have nearly the character or size of ours, but did have a much higher rack rate (and elevators.) If we return to Quebec City, and I hope we will, we will try to stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room #21 and would be delighted to do so again. We did look in several others while th...
