“Very good B&B in Quebec”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

With an excellent localisation, very comfy rooms and delicious breakfast, the friendly couple Nathalie and Paul made our stay in Quebec something special.

just a few blocks from train station and walking distance from the major city tourist points. this B&B make you feel like you're staying in a friend's house.

very good HI-Fi connection provided .

highly recommended.

We spent four nights at the B&B and had a wonderful stay. It's a beautiful home with private, comfortable rooms and delicious breakfasts. It's central to everything and Nathalie and Paul are wonderful, informative hosts. Our first B&B experience was a great one!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are charming, comfortable, quiet and clean!

This place is perfect in every way besdies one; the neighborhood is not as charming as you might get up the hill (inside the walls of the old city). If you can get over that, this is the PERFECT place to stay in Quebec city. Just outside the walls, the location is ideal. It is blocks from the train station, the free Cirque show, the farmers market, good restaurants, antique stores, art stores, etc.

The rooms are very clean, beautifully decorated, and have everything you will need. The hosts are engaging, very helpful, and very good bakers!

If you love B&B's this is one will meet your expectations. If you have never stayed at one before, this is the place to start!

My boyfriend and I stayed for 4 nights in July and had a really great time. The B&B is in a wonderful location; we could walk to everything we wanted to see within 20 minutes or less. It is only a few blocks from the train station and really easy to find. Our room was a quiet, breezy gable at the top of the house-I think it was called the Schooner Room. It had a perfectly appointed bathroom with a nice powerful showerhead; a large, clean bedroom with lots of space to hang out; and a bed comfortable enough that even my boyfriend slept well (he jokes he hasn't slept in years.) The breakfasts are vegetarian, mostly yoghurt, cereal, breads and plenty of fruit but all very tasty. The only time we heard or saw the other guests (it was a full house) was in the cheerful breakfast room downstairs. The walls are thick enough we never even heard the family in the room next door. Honestly it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Nathalie was a lovely hostess. She gave us plenty of maps, told us how to get to the Plains of Abraham for the concert we came for, and suggested other outings for us. So glad she told us about the free Cirque du Soleil show held underneath 2 bridges in town; the show was amazing, full length, outdoors and original. She and her husband between them speak several languages and are very welcoming. If I had a chance to go back I would.

My husband and I had enjoyed this B&B so much two years ago that we returned for a second and longer visit and brought along my sister and brother-in-law to share the experience. Nathalie and Paul are wonderful hosts. Nathalie was able to share a wealth of knowledge about the nearby attractions, events and activities of which we enjoyed many. The B&B is in an excellent location for the able-bodied to walk to everything in the old city, nearby harbour with a wonderful farmer's market and the free Cirque de Soleil performance plus much more. It is a five minute walk from the train station and only a couple minutes walk to a bike rental store and there are lovely bike trails very close by. Our rooms were clean and comfortable with private bathrooms and the breakfasts were delicious and nutritious. We had an early train on our final day and Nathalie happily packed our breakfast in a bag for us to take on the train and it included some of her wonderful homemade bread, fruit and yogurt plus juice and water. Very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. We would highly recommend this B&B and wouldn't hesitate to return in the future.

My husband and I had never stayed at a B and B before staying at A La Decouverte. Natathalie (and her husband, Paul) set the bar pretty high! First, we had some trouble arriving in QC due to flight delays. Nathalie was easily accessible via email, and she was flexible and accommodating around our day-late arrival. She warmly greeted us, promptly showed us our room, and with a map of QC she provided a quick orientation to our location and surroundings. If location to both lower and upper town, plus being within walking distance to a farmers market and other shopping neighborhoods is important to you, THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY! We walked easily to all the major attractions (including the free Cirque de Soleil performance), and for the price, you can't do any better!
The room was spacious, neat, and clean. The mattress was a bit firm for our taste, but we still slept well. The water pressure in the shower was perfect. For breakfast, Nathalie provides different breads (e.g sweet and whole wheat) that were homemade, or purchased from a local boulangerie. She also offers delicious yogurt or custard with granola, fresh fruit, some cereal with milk, and...she keeps the coffee coming! Breakfast is a combo of "help yourself" and Nathalie comes around and fills your coffee often.
During breakfast time, Nathalie is also available to converse, as well as answer any questions or provide suggestions (but only if you ask - she is respectful of those who prefer to enjoy their breakfast quietly and go about their day without input from locals).
Nathalie was very accommodating, sweet, and easy going. When we checked out, we left our bags for a few hours at the inn since our train wasnt until the afternoon. When we came back for our bags and to say goodbye, Nathalie had wrapped a few pieces of her delicious homemade fruit and nut bread for us to take! Also, since we had purchased some picnic-like snacks for the train she quickly pulled together some plastic utensils and napkins for us to take!
Overll, great location, accommodations, breakfast, and the most lovely innkeepers!

This place is literally one of the loveliest and most pleasant places I have ever stayed for travel!
Nathalie and Paul are such great people! Anyone will love these people!
Great filling breakfast helped me and my friend boost our energy for a day, and the room was so perfect and clean that we did not really want to leave a house.

Also, I really appreciated the location. It is right outside of a wall, so the accessibility to main tourist attractions and pretty streets is very good. Just go up a hill, then you will meet the vibrant Saint-Jean street :)
I checked and compared price with other hotels, and this place turned out to be the best deal! I recommend a la decouverte to anyone who is looking for a pleasant place to stay :)
