The food made up for the lack of atmosphere. I had an amazing chocolate brioche that was almost to die for. We had walked around all day looking for a bakery and we came across Paillard's. We kept walking because once we went in it smelled like a cafeteria and looked like one. We were looking for something a little more quaint. After through the old city and new city we couldn't find a bakery to our liking so we ended up back at Paillard's. The food was absolutely delicious. My suggestion would be to take it and go sit somewhere in the old city where it's not so cafeteria like.

Th his is a large though simple bakery that is popular with locals and tourists alike. They open at 7:00AM for breakfast buns, wonderful croissants and other goodies. t is self serve and simply wonderful. Their sandwiches are very very good also.

Located in the old town this is a great spot to get a simple, reasonably priced meal, principally for breakfast or lunch. Wonderful fresh baguettes with basic fillings or a value for money soup, drink, half sandwich, macaroon and small fruit salad special. Some wonderful tarts and desserts which represent much better value than some of the pub or restaurant desserts nearby. This place is a must visit spot.

This is a must try place - the food is great and the buzz of the crowd is kind of fun. However, after a while you are sure to discover that small little place around the corner somewhere that will truly become your favorite - the search for the perfect croissant is part of the fun!

We were very fortunate to have discovered this gem on the 1st night of our visit. Amazing bread. The sandwiches are served on this delicious rolls. The morning croissant are like nothing I've ever tasted in the Boston area. I had a chocolate bonbe that was so delicious I almost had a seizure!
