We stayed two nights in room #9. Large windows facing the St. Lawrence and the boardwalk. Tops of the windows were stained glass...beautiful. We had a small kitchen with frig, microwave, coffee pot, living room with TV and pull out queen for the kids, bathroom with tub and master. Our room was air-conditioned, but it was weak.....however, we opened the windows at night for the breeze from the river. Very old building, made the experience charming. The view and location were excelleant...we could just walk out into the action, and watched fireworks from our beds. The staff is very very friendly and accomodating; thier english is not perfect, but it is much better than my french and we got by. Several times they would walk outside with us to point out where something was. Parking was steps away. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: You want to face the river!

I feel bad for those who stayed but have a negitive view of the Chateau. We have stayed in room 14, 14 times since 1988. The rooms are modest but were upgraded a couple years ago under new ownership. It is an old style European hotel, switched to B&B statis with the new owner.
The view from our private baclony is unparalled. One can sit there all night and look out over the boardwalk and the St. Lawrence river. Having a birds eye view of the big ships, the ferry and all things river related is a big plus. You can not get this any place else in the "Old City" of Quebec.
If you are looking for upscale, this is not the place for you but, if you want the ambiance of the "old" city it is great. The hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly and helpfull, the beds are comfortable and even though it is not air conditioned, the breezes from the river will cool off your room Quite nicely.
We have stayed at Lowes, which is a 10 block walk from everything but were not nearly as pleased with our stay. The Frontinac is a beautiful hotel, but there are no balconies and the river views are not as nice.
The value for your money is very good especially if you can get a parking place close to the hotel. I would advize arriving by noon to get a parking place.
We will always stay at the Chateau.

Room Tip: Although no elevator the third floor rooms with balcony are the best.

This is a lovely hotel. I suppose you could pay a fortune and book a room in the Chateau Frontenac next door. Or for a fraction of the price, if you bokked early, you could get a room at the Chateau Terrasse Dufferein with a balcony withe same views overlooking the St Lawrence, friendly service and a good breakfast. A stunning location and the best hotel we stayed in during a three week trip to across Canada.

Room Tip: Book early and you can choose a room. Room 16 on the third floor (no lift) had a balcony with great...

For visitors there is no better hint as to accommodate for the weekend to watch the people walking on the Promenade just in front of the Chateaux and observe the busy river traffic from the balcony of Room 16.
Even the French breakfast is served on a balcony of the reception with a great view.

Room Tip: Room 16 on the second floor.

but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We spent 3 nights here last week and found the accommodations more than adequate when you consider the price and the location. The building is advertised as being "an old lady of 180 years" and that added to the charm of the experience. The rooms (2 on the 2nd floor - room 7 and 11) were not big, but not as small as the room in the B&B we'd stayed in just up the block. As another mentioned, the beds were ok, but extra pillows were provided after we asked for them.

You don't stay here for the hotel experience, but for the location. Next to the US Consulate and a short staircase to the Terrasse Dufferin the location can't be beat.

We would definitely stay here again.

The best way to describe the interior of this hotel is dated. The common areas and rooms were probably fitted out about 30 years ago and really could do with a bit of modernisation. They are adequate however you won't get the luxuries of a modern hotel here. Things like hair driers, air conditioning etc are not standard. Everything is clean and well kept considering its age though. The hotel is very noisy. we could hear people banging around in rooms above and the floors were very creaky. I expect the rooms get very hot in summer.

On the flip side though, the location is excellent. You are right on the broadwalk and the view from outside the hotel is fabulous. I think the only way to get a better location would be to stay in the Fairmont.

We stayed here for one night and it served its purpose very well. I don't think I would want to stay much longer though.
