I travelled to Quebec with a group of friends and we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location is perfect for the Summer Festival, exploring the Old CIty, and spending time on Grande Alley. The price is also great for the service and location that you get. The rooms were beautiful and the service was amazing. The continental breakfast was excellent also.

Chose this place mainly because of the location, only steps away from old Quebec.

Surprisingly it was very nice and had that European feel to it which fitted well with the whole old Quebec atmosphere. It's a nice clean hotel with small hallways, tiny washrooms and boutique furniture. Property was maintained very well and is very clean.

This place was a great find!!!

My Husband, Brother-In-Law, and I recently travelled through Canada by motorcycle for 2 weeks, including 2 days in Old Quebec City which does NOT allow motorcycles! This hotel turned out to be the perfect solution. It is ideally located on the edge of the Old City and for an extra $14.00/day we left our motorcyles in a locked courtyard behind the hotel. Everything we wanted to see was within easy walking distance. We found this through one of the Visitor Centers, and the first room we were given ("Courtyard View") was small, dark and the "Courtyard" was the above mentioned parking area. I requested another room and was given a great room on the second floor with a view of the City Gates and the horse-drawn carriages in the park. (I highly recommend requesting one of the street view rooms in the front of the hotel.)
The breakfast offered with the room cost is adequate (there are fresh croissants and a small oven to warm them in) Real coffee mugs would be an improvement, but other than that, I've had much worse at much larger hotels! There is a small cafe less than a block away that serves breakfast until 11:30.
The ambience, fresh flowers, and lovely furniture more than make up for the smallish shower/bathroom, and the bed was very comfortable.

Good: the reception hall is very nice, with fresh flowers, and the complimentary internet access is nice. The location is also superb, and the room itself has beatiful furniture. I also liked the view at the park, and although the hotel is situated in a very lively street, we didn't hear any noice.

Bad: the bathroom is very basic, not to say cheap. Also the breakfast is quite low budget: although there are plenty of things, they are rather ready-made, with styro mugs (I don't think it would be much more expensive to buy some basic porcellan mugs). The worst was the airconditioning system that couldn't be turned off - it was so cold that we were freezing inside, and I actually cought cold because of that.

If they could fix the aircon system, I could recommend this hotel for those who don't have very high expectations.

When booking our 4-night accommodation in Quebec City we discovered that early October was quite a busy time of year with a number of conferences being held in the city. This meant our first three or four choices of accommodation were already booked for the period we wanted to stay.

We eventually settled on Manoir de l'Esplanade.

Good Stuff :
Firstly and definately foremost, the location is absolutely excellent. It is just inside the city walls, within about 5-10 minutes walk of everything in the Old Town, but also only 5-10 minutes walk from all the restaurants and shops on Grand Allee and the sites such as the Plains of Abraham and downtown core.

Hotel staff were friendly and accommodated our English speaking well.

Computer in reception for interest access was useful.

The hotel is four old townhouses knocked together to form an inn, so it's quirky - our room had exposed brick walls and lovely big windows overlooking Esplanade Park.

The 'free' continental breakfast was OK. Usual fare, toast, bagels, yoghurt, fruit juice etc.

Negative Stuff:
We really felt the owners of the hotel were cutting too many corners in areas that wouldn't be very expensive to do the job well. For example
a) No in room tea & coffee making facilities. It was about a 15 minute walk to the nearest coffee shop on Grand Allee
b) No glasses in the room, they provided disposable plastic beakers. Not very environmentally friendly (particularly as they had no container for recycling either) but also not very nice to drink out of. Personally, I really think the owners should have gone to a dollar-store and bought 100 tumblers - it would have made a big difference.
c) The linens were the cheapest, thinest quality imaginable - very low thread count and nasty cheap pillows
d) Thin squeaky mattress
c) TV was a small old portable TV on a shelf in the far corner of the room, too far from the bed to be able to see it properly and if you wanted it loud enough to hear then all the neighbouring rooms could hear it too !

We had requested a room overlooking the park which we got and that aspect was great. However, the hotel is on a busy street corner with traffic lights and a cobbled street so there is LOADS of engine & tire noise. We were awoken every morning at around 7am by the sounds of trucks & tour busses sat waiting at the traffic lights right outside the window and then accellerating away. This was in October with the windows shut - I could not imagine sleeping in this room with the windows open in the summer. However, it was nice to have the park view so I guess it depends what's more important.

The parking for the hotel is basically a $2 discount at the public parking garage about 10 minutes walk away. For loading & unloading luggage you will definately want to pull up outside the hotel. However as everything else is walking distance you can pretty much leave your car in the garage for the remainder of your stay.

Overall, we felt it was a nice building in an awesome location, let down by cheap corner-cutting management.

I recently took my fiancee to Quebec City for her birthday, in addition to partaking in the 400th year festivities. After sifting through a number hotels and reviews on Trip Advisor, I settled on the Manoir de L'esplanade after my top three choices were already fully booked. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Here's the breakdown:

LOCATION:
The hotel's location is prime, and one of its best features. Located just inside the walls of the old city, the Manoir de L'esplanade has an ambiance all of its own, and everything worth seeing is within 5-10 minutes walk from its doorstep.

STAFF:
Super friendly and exceptionally helpful.

ROOM:
I highly recommend spending the extra few bucks and booking one of the attic suites. If you don't mind the hike up to the fourth floor (there's no elevator, but it never once bothered us), you won't be disappointed. We had a breathtaking view of one of the city's front gates and the room felt like our own private space. Very charming room with lots of character.

AMENITIES:
Basic room amenities, but a decent continental breakfast (great bagels). A in-room coffee maker might have been a nice touch, but there wasn't one to be found.

AMBIANCE:
Lovely place, with a true "old world" feel to it. The exterior of the hotel is very photogenic at night.

PARKING:
First the bad news: Parking isn't on site, but only a 5 minute walk from the hotel in a public underground parking lot. The good news, however, is that the hotel offers discounted parking tickets and you can leave your car at peace knowing its safe in a secure underground lot. The hotel also allows you a 10-minute window to drop off your luggage and take it to your room from its front entrance.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
At the end of the day, if you are looking for a very reasonably priced Quebec City option with friendly bilingual staff and a lovely overall feel, check your pretensions at the door and give the Manoir de L'esplanade a try. It's listed as a 2-star, but the experience left us feeling it was worth so much more in other ways. Would definitely go back again.

I would say that this hotel is way overpriced. Quality wise I would say it is maybe 1.5 stars. We were given room 18 told it was a courtyard room. It backs onto an alley way with no view. The bed was rock hard and not flat so my back was in pain afterwards.

They also told us when booking on the phone one price then when we got there they raised the price $20.
I would advise to spend a little extra and stay at a quality hotel which there are plenty of nearby.
