I have very ambivalent feelings about Le Priori. Having read all the brilliant reviews of the hotel on TA perhaps my expectations were too high, so perhaps it's not surprising that my overall impression was one of slight disappointment.
On the plus side we have to say that the staff, especially the front desk staff, were truly exceptional and great ambassadors for the hotel. However, even staff such as these could not compensate for other aspects of the hotel.
Our standard room was small and dark, with one small window overlooking the courtyard. It was decorated in dark tones which although stylish did nothing to give one a sense of space, and lighting was also too dim. There was very little storage space to tidy things away, so the room always seemed cluttered. The bed, although comfortable enough, was also smaller than usual. The bathroom was absolutely minuscule, so small that the basin (a fancy conical affair) had to be placed in the bedroom instead! When the bathroom light was switched on (always necessary as it was so dark) an extremely loud fan also came on.......using the bathroom during the night is guaranteed to wake not alone your own partner but probably also everyone else on the same floor. One big plus though was the fab power shower with jets from all sides!
I must add though that I saw another room in passing and it was much larger and brighter than ours, so I expect you get what you pay for.
Breakfast was pretty good but no more than that. Items were constantly running out and were slow in being replaced; hot food was only barely warm; juice was not freshly squeezed and overall there wasn't a great choice. The highlight of my breakfast on the first morning was a divine croissant but none appeared on the second morning in the half hour we were there.
One final odd feature of this hotel was the fact that the elevator stopped operating at midnight which meant that Cinderella-like you are forced to watch the clock at night to ensure that you don't have to climb to the 4th floor as we did...... it kind of puts you off having that final nightcap!
The ultimate question is would I stay here again if I was back in Quebec and I'm not sure that I would, not unless I could afford an upgrade anyway.
