“Cute hotel in a great location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2012

We stayed at L'Hotel du Vieux-Quebec for the weekend following a ski trip to Mt. Ste. Anne. We were pleased with the location of this cute, boutique hotel. Parking is a bit of a hike when the sidewalks are snowy so unload at hotel and then park. We stayed on the ground level in a studio room which we were hesitant about at first but it ended up being great because we were right across from the library where we could sit by the fire and have a drink. Room was small/cozy, but very clean and modern. Bathroom was small, but very clean with high end finishes. Staff was extremely helpful. One night we were really tired from exploring the city during the day. It was a nice surprise to be able to pick a movie for free from their selection and the bowl of popcorn was a nice treat. We loved the fresh croissants and perserves that were left hanging in a cute basket on our door each morning! When I go to Quecbec City next I will stay here in a heartbeat!

This is a great boutique hotel with friendly staff that all seem to be happy, which is nice to see on vacation. There is lounge with access to computers. The manager Daniel was very helpful in suggesting restaurants - Saint Amour :) It was very cold, so we went back to our room after dinner and spent the evening watching 2 films and enjoying the fireplace in our room. We were told that all the beds and pillows in the hotel were just upgraded and we thought the bed was fabulous. So good that we are going to change our mattress at home. As mentioned in other reviews there is a nice large TV. The bathroom is small but nicely done with a rain shower and soaker tub. The view from our window was of the metal roofs across the street, not fabulous but you got a sense of being in Old Quebec. We booked the special they had on the King Superior room with fireplace for $168 Canadian. It included parking, movies and a breakfast basket with croissant and fruit (not a hot meal but considering there was no extra charge or at least it was a hidden charge, I think it was a nice touch). The room had an espresso coffee machine which makes great coffee to enjoy with the croissants in the morning. We compared the price to other hotel specials around town but could find none with similar location and reviews that included as much. Our first choice was the Fairmont as we are members and like to gather the points but the closest we could find was $204 with no parking ($32 with valet at the Fairmont and $14 if you go to the City hall parking) and no breakfast ($25 each at the Fairmont), no fireplace and movies are $14. Hotel Vieux Quebec is about a 5-10 minute walk from the Chateau so we walked up there to have a drink in the bar that overlooks the St. Lawrence River. For the dates we were in Quebec we felt that we got a good price. We will be back

Room Tip: The special they have on their King Superior with fireplace including parking, breakfast and movies

We booked the superior king room as it has a cozy working gas fireplace. The bed was comfortable and the room was pleasant in general. Not much of a view. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Great location close to everything. Nice big screen TV and DVD collection. Breakfast left on door-handle in the morning was a nice touch.

We paid about the same price to stay in a 'gold king' room with a river view at the Fairmont earlier in the week (we got a good price at the Fairmont by prepaying a nonrefundable rate ahead of time and joining their free 'president's club' online). The Fairmont is the landmark of the city and the 'gold floor' rooms were luxurious with great views and a private 'gold floor' lounge with complimentary buffet breakfast, coffee/tea all day, and evening canapes. At the same price the Fairmont room was a better deal.

Room Tip: Superior King has working gas fireplace.

This hotel is in the heart of Old Quebec, within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but nice. Breakfast is left on your door each morning in a cute basket -- breads, jam, maple syrup (of course) fruit, etc. Very nice to just roll out of bed and grab.

There is a reading room on the first floor with books and magazines, a water cooler for filling your water bottles, maps, etc. You can also rent dvds from the front desk for free for watching in your room.

Even though this hotel is in a busy tourist area, it was very quiet and calm.

We stayed here for four nights when we were touring Canada. It was one of the best hotels we stayed in on our entire trip.

The staff are nothing but helpful and courteous and couldn't do enough to give advice on things to see, places to go or directions when asked. The rooms were clean and well appointed, although the sloping roof in ours above the bed caused my 6' tall husband a couple of problems. The breakfast is delivered quietly (as it's put in a lovely wicker basket on a hook outside the door between 6am and 7am) and is delicious with a lovely variety of spreads each day.

The location is wonderful, no more than 5 minutes stroll from the Chateau Frontenac, the tourist information and some wonderful restaurants.

Overall this is a lovely hotel that is excellent value with a lovely restaurant just next door, great service and location.

I can't recommend it enough!

Room Tip: Any room is good but watch for the sloping roofs on the top floor rooms

Spent the New Years' weekend at L'Hotel du Vieux-Quebec, and definitely concur with other posts: It can't be beat for cozy, affordable lodging in the old city. I'm not sure if this hotel is family-run, but it sure feels like it is, with warm, friendly staff and a level of attention to detail too rarely seen. One suggestion, especially for a couple staying the weekend, it to consider a "superior" king room. A bit more expensive, but the superior rooms are unusually nice for a three-star, with a small, fireplace-warmed sitting area. And parking at the lot across the street is included seven days a week with this category of rooms; with others it's only included on weekdays.

Great place - was recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. The service was great - staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was just across the street. Breakfast was hung at your door every morning and was delicious - though I must admit that if we had stayed more than a couple of nights, the pastries, yogurt and fruit may have been a bit too repetitive. They also had a fairly large repertoire of DVDs, which you could borrow without any added fees. The best part, however, was the location! Absolutely perfect, in the heart of Old Québec City - a few steps away from the Château Frontenac and the boardwalk and in the middle of the old shopping district. All in all, fantastic find - will definitely return.
