Description: Around a table with friends or with your better half, any occasion is good for a moment at 1640. Located in the heart of the old town, enjoy a great view on Frontenac Castle in a décors inspired by the golden twenties with a touch of modern. With a great Bistro menu specialized in meat, charcuteries, cheese and pizza, explore our selection of wine or our signature cocktails. The 1640, a must in Old Quebec.

This place looks amazing from the outside. I love the bright red roof. The food however, was not that great. I had the Caesar Salad, it was alright. The service was terrible, in fact we almost got up and left. We did get free Pepsi's because our waitress knew we had waited a long time. I would not bother.

Despite its prime location, and looking very touristy, we enjoyed a excellent meal here.

A warm Wednesday evening at 5.45PM saw the outside area nearly full but we managed to get a table. We fancied the set menu at $29, but were told that this was only available outside after 6PM. There was ample seating inside so the waitress suggested we move in, if we didn't want to go a la carte.

Whilst the set menu was not big on choice (three starters and three mains and a couple of desserts) what it lacked in choice was made up for by the value.

Both went for the French Onion Soup to start, which whilst not huge was more than sufficient and tasty. Came with plenty of bread which was topped up.

For mains my wife had the fish and I went for the pork chop, a huge serving topped with cheese. Very impressed with it. Both came with vegetables. Dessert and tea./coffee also included.

Service was efficient and a bit clinical in delivery (not much interaction).

Definitely recommend the set menu as a good choice

My fiance and I were visiting Quebec City from Toronto and we ate at the restaurant Friday night. We came across this place via internet and with their high ratings, we decided to check it out. We both had the beef filet mignon and it was beyond tasty. It came with a blueberry port sauce that made the steak that much more delicious. The restaurant was full, the live band kept everyone entertained - very nice ambiance, the wine was delicious, the prices were reasonable which is nice, the food exceeded our expectations, and the server Erica was beyond friendly. I would definitely go back to this restaurant next time I'm in town. Highly, highly recommend it!!!!

I had a very generous omelette for the average priced breakfast for Old Town. Service was good Menu is varied enough to appeal to anyone.

Restaurant 1640 looks like a very touristy restaurant for sure, and it probably is. Having said that though, the location is perfect for people watching looking out on the square and the beautiful Hotel Frontenac with horse drawn carriages going by. The food was very good. We chose to sit inside and ordered the special, which was pork chops and they were perfectly cooked. Only complaint is the side dishes were a little cool. We came when a jazz set started and that just made the ambiance all the more special. Would definitely return.
