Hotel Motel Bonaparte
Ranked #66 of 102 Hotels in Quebec City
Reviewed May 27, 2011

We chose this hotel as it has a 3 star rating with CAA/AAA. We booked a non smoking motel room as I assumed the motel and hotel would both be 3 star. NOT! I called ahead to confirm our arrival and room, yet we were given a smoking room when I had requested non smoking. I said I could not stay in that room because I have asthma, and was told that all the rooms were smoking. She then said that the computer entered the opposite of what people requested and there had been an error. I said we would have to find another hotel, and suddenly a non- smoking motel room became available, but only one bed and we had booked double beds. We were told if we stayed in it for the one night, May 19, we would be moved to a newer room in the hotel for May 20, 21, so we agreed. It was 8:15 at night and we had been driving for 11 hours. The room was VERY tired, dingy and run down. The bed was terrible. There was one light in the ceiling and another tri ceiling light over the jacuzzi - the highlight of the room. There was no light by the sink which was in the main room. The bathroom had a toilet which ran all night, and standup shower, peeling paint, no hooks to hang anything, and earwigs. The mirror by the jacuzzi was cracked. The only lock on the door was the door lock which was opened with a key on an oval keyholder. There was not even a chain. We did not feel safe. It was very noisy - a transport truck started up outside our window at 4:40 am and ran for about 10 minutes, and there were other truck noises. The following morning we moved to the hotel part and the difference was like night and day. It was a very nice room, up to date, clean, quiet and secure. The restaurant where we had the (included) breakfast was also very nice. This area of the hotel certainly deserved a 3 star rating, but the motel part which adjoined it would not even rate a 1 star in my opinion. People need to know when they book, that they should book the hotel, not the motel accomodation.

We were looking for an affordable (cheap) place to stay while our students billeted with their "twins" during a French language exchange during the 2011 Quebec Winter Carnaval. I found this motel quite by chance after using Google Maps to locate something close to our host school. We ended up in the hotel section, with two queen sized beds, a small fridge and a microwave. Our booking included free wi-fi and continental breakfast (or $3.50 off of the regular breakfast prices). The croissants were amazing - freshly baked each day on the premises, and they have a great selection of crepes, eggs benedict (in many varieties), etc., all of which were outstanding. Front desk staff was very helpful at all times. It is a bit outside of the city, but not a problem if you have a car. There is a Subway restaurant and McDonald's across the road, as well as a good Greek restaurant nearby. The bathtub/shower is a one-piece surround with the slanted back that makes a bath more comfortable - it's a little thing, but I like it! The hotel/halls were also extremely quiet In spite of the full parking lot on a Carnaval weekend.

I can only comment on the motel as I didn't see the hotel part...parking is free and its about a 10min drive to downtown...but at 5 am the garbage truck was doing its rounds?...and maybe like 6am when a tour group was leaving the grounds we could here them loud and clear passing our rooms and our windows were closed...also the bathroom had some weird red light...we didn't feel too comfortable there...20 bucks more a night and you can stay in the hotel...but also the night staff doesn't speak English so that was a bit of a barrier...I probably would not stay here again...we were suppose to stay 2 nights but ended up staying only one night.

before we made reserved at this hotel/motel, we were quite hesitated to do so since we couldn't find any reviews for this hotel in internet. But we were so happy that we made this decision.
The hotel's location is quite convinient, so you can drive to a highway easily. The hotel itself is very very quite and clean, and all rooms are newly renovated and everything is almost sparkingly new! The bed is firm and comfortable. The A/C and TV are all working great. The staffs are friendly and working hard to make your feel welcomed!
The price is also very attractive. We stayed in a motel room, which is much better than most of 3-star hotels I've stayed before. The price is about $70.
This hotel has a gym, ice-machine. It provides shampoo and a simple breakfast. You can choose 2 items out of 5: toasted bread, bagel, crossiant, muffin and fruit salad) and for the drink, you can choose between coffee and tea.

Overall, we're very satisfied with the hotel. And if we visit Quebec City in future, we will definitely stay there.
