Hard to believe such a beautiful, green hilly location was once a battlefield. We spent the afternoon walking the Plains of Abraham. The path led us right to the old part of town, the board walk by the Chateau.

I knew the story. I'd seen the vicinity on various travel programs on television. Being there in person didn't really add that much for me. If I had to cut one thing out of our day in Quebec City, this would've been it.

If you are on Grande Allee, head behind the Concorde hotel to access the Plaines and head towards the St. Lawrence river. You will see the Martello towers. Head down towards the citadelle and you will see a big gazebo which marks the beginning of the boardwalk. This will take you the entire length of the cliff along the citadelle to the end of the boardwalk at the Chateau Frontenac. If you start from the Plaines end of the boardwalk, you will be heading mostly down the stairs - a much more pleasant route than up!

It's a beautiful, peaceful and safe park where you can read, play frisbee, walk, jog, rollerblade, bike, picnic and take pictures of beautiful gardens and views. You can visit the Museum and eat there too. Wonderful!!

Peaceful lush greenway full of history. Take some time to just sit on a bench and take in this place. Beautiful landscaping and be sure to go to the Citadel, walk around it and see the Governor's Residence- open only on certain days but it is free and tour is very interesting!
