“Some Good Qualities, Some Bad Qualities”

My wife and I stayed here for two nights for our anniversary. The location is every bit as good as other reviews have mentioned. You're just across a small square from the Le Chateau Frontenac, and right near everything you would want to visit in old Québec. Odds are you are not going to Québec City to stay in your hotel, so based on location alone, this hotel is tough to beat.

But as for the hotel itself, we ran into a few small issues. We drove to Québec City, so we knew they offered parking at a nearby garage. However, due to ongoing construction, it is extremely tricky to locate the entrance to the garage. You essentially need to do a 180 degree turn in order to drive into the garage. We only found it after we parked in a different garage. This is not entirely the fault of the hotel, but if you will be driving, make sure to get very clear directions from the hotel on how to get to the garage, otherwise you will be stuck driving around the one-way streets for quite some time.

We also stayed during a very hot stretch of July. The room was equipped with an A/C, but it was located right by the front door, and barely reached the rest of the room. We turned the temperature down to try to cool it off, but were only told later that we had turned it too far down. All in all, it made for a tough room to sleep in, but as long as the weather isn't as hot, I wouldn't see this as a major issue.

Lastly, there is only a narrow and somewhat steep staircase to enter the hotel, and without and bellhops, guests are responsible for getting their luggage up and down the stairs. Just something to keep in mind depending on how much luggage you have and who you may be traveling with. The staff was helpful when we had questions, and again the location is tough to beat.

Little things do mean a lot! The location of this hotel is perfect but that is the best that I can say about it. The "staff" on the three days we were there consisted of one woman at the reception desk. There is no one to help you with your luggage and the steps are steep up to the reception desk and winding and steep up to the third level. The room was adequate and clean. The bathroom was very small with not a hook in sight and there was only one small bar of soap provided during our three day stay. There is no sign at the entrance that tells you the reception desk is up the stairs and you could easily find yourself in the service area of the restaurant. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Chateau Frontenac across the square.

This hotel is worth every penny, especially considering Quebec City is generally expensive. Great location for walking to attractions/dinning/shopping in Quebec City. The staff helped with tour reservations to the Falls. The Ecobus is must ride. Taxi ride is around six bucks from cruise ship terminal or the train station.

My wife and I made our first trip to Quebec in May. After some research, I selected Auberge du Tresor as our hotel, mostly because of its perfect location. We could not have been happier with the choice.
The hotel was built in 1640 as a private residence and later converted to a hotel. Over the centuries it has managed to retain its historic charm and offer modern amenities, large comfortable beds, ultra modern showers and well decorated rooms. Our room overlooked the busy Rue Ste. Anne, which also added to the European feel of this place. The staff was friendly, warm, knowledgeable and helpful.
We had the Romantic Package For Two on our first night, which included welcoming drinks, a house bottle of (very good)French wine and a wonderful 5 course dinner. Breakfast the next morning was also included and was also excellent. This was all at the 1640 Restaurant which is located on the ground floor of the hotel.
In short, Auberge du Tresor is the best hotel I've ever stayed in in all of my travels and I'm looking forward to staying there again when we return to Quebec.

This is the perfect place to stay! it is right in the middle of all. All the shops and restaurants are just a few minutes walk. The chateau Frontenac is right in front. our room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helped us find parking and things to do. when we go back to Quebec we will stay here again!

Bang in the centre, an old renovated house with all the goodies you can expect without a coffeemaker in the room. The reception staff was friendly and helps you in your tour of the city. The hotel is well maintained and the room was an old style attic with a comfortable bed, writing desk and was adequately lighted. The window opens if you need to have a fresh breath of Quebec air. The bathroom was grand with adequate toiletries, but the breakfast is a bit costly at $12.50/pax/day. Don't worry, you have a Subway just round the corner and plenty of restaurants serving good food at reasonable rates, but not cheap.
The downside of the hotel is that you need to haul up your luggage up a steep, curved stairway and I wouldn't recommend this hotel for older couples.

Room Tip: Select a room on the front side on the 1st floor to have a view of the city centre just in front of...

Auberge du Tresor lets you savor a European flavor without leaving home (Canada)

We have been staying here for over 20 years during our Quebec City visits. Don't speak French? No worries, the staff is friendly, welcoming and always ready to assist in any way possible.
The hotel is now in the process of updating the accommodations. Not only are you in the best location in Old Town, you are now staying in a modern, comfortable renovated room. The Romantique Package is great value and highly recommended. The restaurant on site, 1640 is one of the best in Quebec City whether you choose to be seated inside or out on the terrace as you people watch and enjoy the ambiance of Quebec City.

You will leave with wonderful memories and will be sure to return again and again.

Room Tip: Request a room at the front of the building facing the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac.
