Be sure to read signage posted on buildings as many are historical sites such as Rene Levesque's family home near the Citadel - remember you will walk down hill to the waterfront and fully uphill to the top near the Citadel and Parlament buildings. Take a walk on the Promenades near the Frontenec, and if you wonder what that slide is at the end . . . it's for winter / ice sledding .... yes, we had to ask ! Great views from all around and we took two tours, one to Isle d'Orleans which went very fast - and the other was for the Discovery Center - don't miss the lil' bus tour with Abraham Martin ---- oh so fun !! It is an easy way to get around the upper part of upper town and hear some tales about the English/French battle on the Plains d'Abraham. The Discovery Center has a little video where you go into three different rooms....do it You will enjoy, and it is good for children as well (ages 5 and up).

From Grande Allée for the many restaurants - all styles & prices - to rues Sainte Anne and Saint Jean for many stores (and some restaurants) and all in between for the charm.
I would just caution those with difficulties walking because it is all up and down and sometimes with cobblestones.
We rented an apartment near the Loews and that is the perfect place to stay to visit all by foot.

Easy to navigate; lots of great choices for boutique hotels and good to fine dining. Best Old City in North America. Wear comfortable foot gear; lot's of walking. No on street parking available.

We stayed in Upper Town for 5 days, and never felt bored. There are a ton of shops to poke around in. Yes they are expensive, but so what? Lots of great food, lots of great places to people watch. I would definitely recommend walking around rather than driving - parking did not look fun.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We stayed at a charming hotel in the center of town. It's a visual feast and feels a bit like Europe. It' s easy to take the funicular to the lower town. We were there at the very beginning of tourist season so we avoided crowds. The disadvantage was that we missed some events that tart later in the month.
