Owner description: The Citadelle is an active military garrison and a National Historic Site located on Cap Diamant. Its construction began in 1820. Its walls enclose 300 years of military history spanning the French, British and Canadian periods. Guided tours of the site and the Musee Royal 22e Regiment are open year-round. Ceremonies of the Changing of the Guard and Beating of the Retreat are presented in summer and included in the entrance fee. Night tours in summer and fall seasons. Permanent exhibition "Je me souviens" relates the 100-year-long history of the Royal 22e Regiment, the Canadian Forces' sole French-language regular force infantry regiment. Learn about the lives of soldiers who have served in its ranks from 1914 to the missions in Afghanistan. Audiences will also enjoy a special exhibition every year and have access to an interactive experience exploring the built heritage of the fortress and the regiment's history through interviews, video archives, and interactive maps of battles.

The changing of the guards was dissapointing. The PA system was hard to understand and there was not a lot of explanation on the meaning of what was happening. On the tour after we were moved through the exhibits so fast you couldn't read much. Because it is a "working military base" you can't wander on your own. Fabulous view.

Thank you very much for visiting the citadel and for writing a comment. Your comments help us improve the quality of our services. We are aware that the PA system is not working very well, but we are planning to change it during the next few months to prepare for next year. As for the duration of the tour and the access to the exhibits, we had a survey done recently to prepare us for the new museum and it was the main problem, so as of next year, may 2014 to be exact, we are opening a new museum that allows people to wonder on their own inside the museum.

The changing of the guard was overly long. The people working behind the counter were indifferent to the tourists but the guides were enthusiastic. If you can go to London it's 10x better but they don't have a goat. :) The one I saw had an Irish Setter for the Irish Guard.

Thank you very much for visiting the citadel and for writing a comment. Your comments help us improve the quality of our services. We are working hard to make the ceremony a bit shorter, so far we managed to bring it down to 35 minutes. We apologise if our employees gave you the impression that they were indifferent to the visitors, we made sure they should be more careful. Our employees are highly qualified and it’s unusual to notice this kind of behaviour.

for the price this was a very good 1 hour tour of the citadel and maybe we had a good guide as she was entertaining as well as telling us the history of the citadel. After our guided tour with plenty of photo opportunities we visited the small museum next to the gift shop which most other people seemed not to have noticed. Only thing to aware of this is a working military base so you cannot wonder off on your own.

Very nice one-hour tour of this active fort. Great views of the city and the St. Lawrence River below. We went on an 11:15 tour. Note: Save your receipt and tickets from when you go, then you can return the next day just to see the changing of the guards – it’s well worth the trip back! Just go to the ticket area, show them your tickets from the previous day and they’ll exchange them for that day’s tickets.

The structure is neat, but you see so very little of it. Most of the guided tour talks of the regiment that occupies the Citadelle. Guided tours were the only access offered.
