This place is rather affordable and has great character and history. The boys (7 and 10) and I spent a night here late last summer and we brought my wife along for two nights this summer. The staff is nice and efficient. The rooms are small by modern standards, as this is the oldest operating hotel in Quebec city, but they are clean and well appointed. The beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms we've used are nice. The location is prime, as well. We'll be back.

Room Tip: As of late June 2014, they are still renovating City Hall, which is across the street from the Hotel...

The location of this beautiful hotel (the oldest building in Canada I think?) is perfect. Everything from quaint shops to gelato to restaurants to Tim Hortons (!) is a short walk away. The staff are very friendly and helpful with tips on where to eat and what to see. What's great is being inside the fort. The rooms are a bit small but that's normal by European standards. We managed comfortably (a family or 3 and a family of 4, in 2 double rooms). If you're in Quebec city I'd highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed 6/27 for one night and it's our first trip to Quebec city. Just 2 minutes walk to the board walk. Hotel is very nice, we got the top floor(6 1/2) facing the mountain, window is small oval shape quite unusual, I liked it. Night scene very nice. Room is kind of small with two double beds but it is OK in Quebec city. Front desk is very helpful and friendly. I love Quebec city, Will visit again.

Room Tip: Busy visiting the city, didn't try hotel amenity

Stayed 2 nights, location is great if you are planning to walk the old town, parking a bit steep in price, room quaint and clean, reminded us of places we stayed in Europe. Please do not have breakfast there as its highway robbery for practically nothing. 13$ for one slice of sugar bread and 4 pcs of fruit is supposed to be a gastronomic breakfast! C'm'on wake up!!!!!

Would I return??? no!!! Glad I stayed there yes!

Cheers

We booked this hotel after reading great reviews. Overall we were not disappointed as the location of this hotel is definitely one of the best in the tourist area of Old Quebec. It is so central that we constantly walked past our hotel again and again while exploring the town.

However, we did have a couple of issues. 1. size of the room: past reviewers have mentioned this and we didn't think it would be a big deal as we would be out most of the time anyway. However, when you are constantly touching the shower curtain as you try to dry yourself after shower is a little extreme. There's also nowhere to hang anything in the bathroom. 2. Internet: wifi was extremely inconsistent and slow. The front desk provided us with several new codes but the problem was never solved during our stay. We ended up using our data every time going on the internet. 3. TV: the remote was unreliable, making it difficult to switch channels.
All in all, not a bad stay given its superb location. Aside from that, everything else is pretty standard, just like any other 2.5 to 3-star hotel.

If you are looking for a standard hotel at a convenient location, this is a great choice at a reasonable price.

Thank you for your review. We have different room types available, at different rates, from the economy queen room to the executive king room. As for the internet, we indeed have been experiencing some code issues, as we've been going through some changes in order to improve the quality of our service. We are very sorry about that. We visited at the end of May and had a lovely time. Old style elegance and courtesy with staff throughout the hotel including the restaurant very friendly and helpful. Excellent location with lots to see and great places to eat within 5 mins walk and good breakfast selection in the hotel restaurant. Free internet access in the foyer was convenient. We had a reasonably sized twin room with two standard double beds, clean and bright with coffee maker. Enjoyed watching the squirrels in the tree behind us. Do be aware that the great value and location do make it popular with school trips which can fill up the restaurant at breakfast when they all descend at once. That said, didn't notice them the rest of the time. Try taking the stairs next to the lift; quite steep, narrow and twisty they are a bit tricky but will help burn off some of the inevitable maple syrup calories!

I celebrated my Birthday in Quebec City. The four of us stayed from April 18th - 20th 2014.

-Great pricing
-The staff was very professional and friendly
-Beautiful classic architecture with a bit of a modern touch in the room
-The room is clean and restocked towels without needing to ask
-The bathroom lacked a functional ventilation system
-Loved the Valet parking

I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to anybody because of the location, friendly & extremely helpful staff, cleanliness and overall gorgeous architecture.
