Owner description: These 275-foot falls on the Montmorency River tower higher than even the legendary Niagara Falls. The 2013 season promises to be exhilarating for people who will visit Parc de la Chute-Montmorency – Montmorency Falls, the second most visited site of the provincial capital after Old Quebec. The highlight of all the new summer activities is certainly the opening of two via ferrata routes built in the Boischatel fault near the waterfalls. Via ferrata – this is Italian for “iron roads” - is an activity accessible to everyone over 12 years old that combines hiking and rock climbing. The two paths are built on the rock face on the eastern side of the waterfall. The less adventurous will also be able to get stunning views of the 83-meter high waterfall aboard the cable car which now runs with sparkling new cabins. History buffs will be glad to know that guided tours are now offered each weekend in the company of Sir Frederick Haldimand, who served as Governor of Quebec from 1778 to 1786 and Mathilde Robin, best known as the Lady in White, who lost her fiance during the Montmorency Battle in 1759. Guided tours are offered in French or English until Labour Day weekend.

I would suggest that the best views of the falls are from the parking lot accessed just by Highway 40W. The parking lot is part of the Montmorency Falls Park and you still have to pay the entrance fees. You can then make your way up the many steps to the top for the view of the falls and the surrounding areas from the top. Would NOT suggest this way if you are afraid of heights and have to make your way down again to the parking. We went in through the Park entrance by the Manoir, had a quick lunch at the Manoir and walked on the bridge over the falls and made our way mid-way through the many steps for a good view of the falls. All in all, the falls are quite a sight to hold, not as big as Niagara but still worth the visit especially after a season of good rainfall for the loud roar of the falls. There are a few trails within the park and these can be quite picturesque during fall. The Park makes for a decent outdoor activity. It can get quite busy though during good weather.

We didn't know this place existed til the staff at the N Hotel told us about it. This is a really beautiful place and the views and walking trails are amazing. This should be on everyone's stop when visiting the Quebec City area.

While the falls may not be as grand as Niagara Falls if you are looking to spend some time walking outdoors in a scenic area then this will be perfect. I had heard it was a "must see" but I would not categorize it as that. We did however enjoy our afternoon, took lots of pictures and the stairs (we rode up and walked down) were an adventure in themselves.
