My partner and I took the Discovery Tour at the Morrin Centre and it was time very well spent, The cost was only 10 dollars each and the tour lasted about an hour. The tour conisted of four parts: the exterior architecture, the Morrin College, the Jail, and the Literary and Historical Society Library.
Each and every part of the tour is of interest. The architecture and the role of the building throughout the centuries is facinating. The college part had a great classroom with original scientiic instruments from the late 1800s. The jail part showed the cells, artifacts of torture, and everyday prison life, a trap door, and a computer visual presentaion of the prison. The Library which still operates is in a very special room with a walk around upper deck, a book collection of thousands of rare titles and artwork thoughout the room. There is much more on the tour and I have just mentioned the highlights here.
Any tour though is judged by the quality of the tour guide. Our guide, Ben, was extremely well informed, forthcoming, friendly and is clealy a lover of history and enjoys his work. All guides are bilingual, dress in period clothing, and are able to answer any questions - certainly Ben answered all of our questions.
The Morrin Centre is within the walled city so it is easy to get to the centre. Tours are throughout the day but we advise you check the schedule online so the wait is no longer than necessary.
This is one of the best tours for this type of facility we have ever had and recommend it highly.
