“Disappointing”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

The location was great and the old building charming but there were problems. The room was very small but we made do with a little sitting room outside of our door. We were there for 3 nights and every day the smell of smoke inside the room kept getting stronger till the last night we had to ask to move because we couldn't breathe. A couple in a next door room stated the same thing. They did move us to another property down the street, it was pouring down rain and we had to move our own luggage. There were extra charges on the bill that did get workend out eventually but I would not recommend to friends or family.

The Louisbourg is a great place to stay, the only negative experience being that the reception is located on a side street, but it's not a big trouble and once passed the check in there's no need to return.

The hotel is located in an old building inside the city walls, which means that the floor and walls are about as crooked as one could expect from an old building. In my opinion, this only adds to the charm!

There is Wi-Fi on every floor, the rooms are clean and cozy. As can be expected with such a central location they are somewhat small, but that's not a real issue with so many things to experience nearby.

The breakfast buffet is served in the restaurant next door. It's a warm, american style buffet; there are fried potatoes, bacon, scrambled egg, sausages, pancakes and toast. Overall the food quality was good, though somewhat boring.

Room Tip: There is no elevator and the stairs may be tough on children or elders.

We stayed one night at Hotel Louisbourg in an "Economic" room overlooking Rue Saint-Louis. It was a very small room with a double bed which was clean, quiet and comfortable with very reliable free wi-fi. However, if you are over 6-4 I would recommend upgrading (my head nearly touched the ceiling!). Location is perfect for exploring the Old Town area and going up to the Grand Allee which is the heart of Quebec City nightlife. A free breakfast was included at the restaurant next door which was good, especially the maple creme crepes! As mentioned, reception is around the corner but you have access to all of the amenities at the Hotel Acadia and they allowed us to store our bags for free after checking out. Should I return to this magnificent city I would definitely stay at Hotel Louisbourg again.

Stayed there with my spouse and my stay was very near perfect, nice size room (Louisbourg Deluxe) the hotel was very clean, great service at the reception desk at the hotel Acadia the location was ideal for us who wanted to explore old Quebec and the old port etc... all in all, for the price, the hotel was awesome and would also recommend this hotel to everyone I know. The only little downfall, my spouse found the room a bit cold even though it was 24-26 degrees celsius outside and we had no way to adjust the thermostat.

Stayed here for two nights. Great location - easy access to all attractions. Very clean. Nice rooms. The hotel has character. The only drawback was that we had to check in at the hotel down the road (about 2 mins away). They did advertise this. If you have really heavy bags you may have to ask for help up the stairs as there's no lift. Also there's only staff there during office hours (after that I guess phone staff at the other hotel). These points are minor and we had a great stay here.

The hotel is less than a 5 minute walk from Chateau Frontenac and located on a street lined with shops and restaurants. There is no reception at this hotel, so you have to check in at Hotel Acadia, it’s sister hotel, located just around the corner. You also need to use the phone at the entrance to Hotel Louisbourg to arrange parking (if you were with car).
You need to know: there is no elevator, so if you are staying on the 4th floor (Like my friend and I) you will have to carry your bags up four flights of stairs.
All in all though, Hotel Louisbourg is in a fantastic location and is affordable for two people to split. Just be aware that there is no front desk and no elevator so this hotel won’t be for everyone.

I have stayed in 3 different hotels in Manhattan, and I have never seen a smaller hotel room in my life. It was absolutely uncomfortably small for 2 adults and bags for 4 days. The internet barely worked at all which was very inconvenient as we were spending a lot of time planning our onward journey to Europe. No breakfast included or anything. The location is good but that is about it. There were so many other options in that area of Quebec I would definitely try something else next time.

Room Tip: Choose somewhere else!

Dear guest,
Thank your for taking some minutes to share your comments on our hotel. We're sorry to read that your stay wasn't as perfect as it should have been. We have many room categories and we try to make it as clear as possible on our website that some of them are perfect for an economic stay in the heart of Old-Quebec. We would have been happy to help you with the Internet access if you would have contacted us at the front desk during your stay. Concerning the breakfast, it is available for a small extra or included with different promotions of packages. Thank you again for your comment and we hope you had a nice trip in Quebec city.
