We took the Grand Tour with Neal as guide. He is American who has lived in Quebec City for several years, and he has degrees in French/early American French history, and he told us the he lives his dream job everyday. His enthusiasm was very evident, and that made his stories of the founding of Quebec and subsequent history come to life.
There was also an intern guide on our tour, and we learned that guides go through a year of intense coursework, then intern, then hope to get hired, so these guides are very well educated on the topics that they cover, making it worth the ticket price, in my opinion.

The tour lasted about 2.5 hrs, began in the Upper Town and worked its way down to Lower Town. The pace is moderately brisk, which I appreciate, so I would not recommend the tour for people with mobility issues. You should wear sturdy shoes as you will traverse some steep hills and cobblestones.

The history lessons really stuck with us for the rest of our time in Quebec. That is the ultimate indicator of a good tour!

An additional note. Some people provided a gratuity at the tour conclusion.

We tried to sign up for a scheduled tour but it was full. Normally I expect that would mean tough luck and we'd have to wait for the next time slot, but that didn't happen.

We and another couple were too late, but the people at the desk decided to see if they could call in a tour guide unscheduled to lead an unscheduled tour. 30 minutes later, Jacques arrived and led 10 of us around the Old Town.

He was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient even when a rogue scavenger hunt asked for assistance and a lost couple asked for directions. He gave great insights and facts while keeping us moving along. My wife and I were very impressed, especially when he recognized us hours later after our tour had ended.

Some hints - dress comfortably and wear appropriate shoes. You will cover a lot of ground on different street types and be going up and the hills of the area. Some water would be very good to have along. And walk a bit more quickly than leisurely since you will visit many places and you don't want to be left behind, especially taking pictures like some people who write these reviews did.

This review is for the Grand Tour. It was excellent - informative, nice mix of upper and lower town, my 12-year old loved it too. We learned so much from our excellent guide Mike O'Farrell - he has great knowledge, great stories and clearly loves the city and its history. Most notably, he kept the 3 kids in our group of 8 engaged throughout without talking down to them. Thank you Mike!

We had a lovely sunny day for our food tour and our guide Marie was very pleasant. The tour involved stopping at three local restaurants for a tasting (according to the choice of the restaurant), a maple syrup factory, a European grocery and a chocolate shop. We were to visit the SAQ but it was closed. Several of the stops didn't have the correct number of small portions prepared but hosts made sure that everyone had a taste if they wished it. In between the tastings, Marie pointed out historical sites and information. Overall, a lovely way to spend 2 1/2 hours. We saw several shops that we might have missed if we had walked on our own. Because the tour ended near the shops, we were able to browse and shop afterwards.

Hello,

Thank you for reviewing our Food Tour. We just want to apologize for the missed stop at SAQ since we have been advised at the very last minute about their closing for renovations. If you ever come back to Quebec city, let us know and we will offer you a complimentary Grand Tour.

Our family of 8 took the Grand Tour - we did the city walking tour on Monday and the Food tour on Tuesday. Both tours were exceptional. Both tour guides were very different in their backgrounds and styles and each brought a unique perspective to the city. Neal, an American Fracophile, brought a American perspective combined with a rich understanding of French and Quebec culture and history. Loved his walking tour and his enthusiasm and energy. Robert took us on the food tour. He gave us the perspective of a native and shared much about the recent history of the last 30 years. He introduced us to many tastes of the city. Tours Voir Quebec does a first rate job. All of their guides appear to be extensively trained and are helpful, engaging, fun and informative. Taking one of their tours gives you a richer appreciation for the city from a historical and present day perspective. Highly recommended.
