“Gourmand Dream Restaurant Hits a Triple”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

Used fellow trip advisor recommendations for this one and as usual, I wasn't disappointed. The chef may not have a michelin star yet, but he should be in the running for one. The 5 course meals (there are 3 variations to choose from depending upon the protein and the starter chosen), are centered around preparing the same protein, but 3 different ways. The foi gras 3 was a highlight, as was the Elk. I would encourage you to add on the optional wine pairings for your meal. It's another 100US but worth it and really adds to the dining experience. The staff is young, energetic and very passionate about the presentation. The restaurant resides in one of those charming French-style chateau townhouses Old Quebec is known for in a really fun part of town (sort of the "middle" between Upper and Lower Quebec City.). Plenty to do right outside the door of the restaurant adds to the experience. It's pricey (easily $500US for 2 people with the wine pairing) but it will be the highlight of your gourmet quebec experience while in town.

“Interesting, tasty food; fabulous service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2014

Loved this place. The menu is different: two primary ingredients each served three different ways. With a soup first, lemon granita in between the first ingredient plate and the second ingredient plate, it was interesting and tasty. My first ingredient was foie gras, second was young elk. Dessert was a similar multi-set of bites based on fennel and lemon. The only oddity within the food was the soup: my onion soup and my partner's lobster bisque came as a smear of something with bits of things (croutons, lobster, mushrooms etc) in a dry bowl. At first I thought it was deconstructed soup! The waitress returned with the broth in kettles separately.

The decor was neutral, calming, quiet, tables well spaced. The service was excellent. It was an expensive meal, but delicious, interesting yet comfortable all at the same time.

“One of the best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2014

We last visited Le Patriarche at the end of May. We had also eaten there on our last trip and we were looking forward to going again. We took another couple with us and we were all blown away by the excellent food, wine and service. This truly is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at. I love the concept of "trilogies" - 3 different interpretations of the same main ingredient. Truly unique and invariably delicious. The four of us even had our own private dining space on a lower level!

“WOW! True Gourmet Experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2014

My partner and I ate at this place on a whim after sampling some wine at it when we were on a foodie tour. We were struck by its cute appearance, 5 star rating, and hearing about the food. It surpassed both our expectations! While it is pricey, if one were to eat a meal like this in Paris or London, it would be double the price. With 7 courses, it took about 2 hours. Our entertainment for the evening and we were not disappointed! It is ONLY for the true food gourmet! If you are not adventurous with your palette go elsewhere. It is a journey of taste discovery. The food is so artful arranged and prepared that it's elevated to complex modern art. This is not for everybody. An experience you will not forget. Make reservations early as it books up quickly. Best culinary experience of my life.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2014

Was expecting fantastic food for a 5 diamond rating, but it didn't happen. The onion soup was down right awful. Bland broth over a raw piece of onion. The Elk was very tasty and the presentation was well laid out. The foie gras was average only. I enjoyed the desserts. We both wished we had eaten somewhere else especially spending $350 before tip. I don't understand how this place was rated so high.
