Holiday Inn Express Quebec City (Sainte-Foy)
Ranked #29 of 102 Hotels in Quebec City
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 2, 2011

We two seniors (67 and 72 plus our grand children 5 and 10) stayed at the Holiday Inn Express from July 30 to 31.2011. The Room was renovated and clean. The bathroom was modern. The “Mini Pool” should be considered a “Big Jacuzzi” more for Adults. When we booked (by phone) we were told that there would be a shuttle going down town and that it was free of charge. What the Holiday Inn reservation and the front desk did not tell us was that there is a hotel organized shuttle going down town, but that it is leaving already at 8:15 a.m. and is only returning at 6:00 p.m. The front desk let us believe (or lets just say that they “forgot” to tell us about this fact) so we went at 8:30 to the bus stop only to find out that the Desjardin Bus Line 400 starts only at 10:00 a.m. and thereafter every 15 minutes (cost 3:00 $ per Adult plus 1.50 $ for Kids over 6 years old). We had to find this fact out from the very friendly and attentive and helpful front Desk of the Best Western Hotel (next to the Holiday Inn) they gave us even paper based instructions and a city map. One more comment. Don’t expect a well furnished Buffet Breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express, but rather “Industrial Croissants and Pancakes” with plastic teaspoons, knifes and forks, a cheap minimal buffet style – this maybe o.k. for North American Tourists but probably not for Europeans. For European Tourists with kids we recommend to book (if you can) at the Best Western Hotel – there is a real pool for kids and the Hotel is European Style and the front desk seems to be much more attentive to their guests. The Room price is equal or less. The Bus Line 400 stop is just across the Best Western Hotel. One positive comment, they let us in the room already at 10:30 a.m. (when we asked if we could leave our luggage somewhere) normal check-in time is 3:00 p.m.

Dear Sir or Madam,

First of all, I wanted to thank you for your comments. We do really appreciate. I will take the opportunity that is given to me here to answer your concerns.

We do offer a free shuttle in the morning for the persons who want to go downtown before the ''Desjardins Bus Line'' start. The Shuttle is living the hotel at 8:15AM and coming back at 6PM. The Front Desk staff do not ''let people believe'' that the shuttle is all day long because it never been and will never be.
On our web sites and all third party sites, it's indicated the we do have an outdoor Spa, not a pool. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. About the breakfast, its a brand standard. This is the same menu in all Express in North America.
I also will take the time to thank you from our sister property, the Best Western. I fowarded the comments to my colleagues and they really appreciate it.

Bests Regards

Pascal Curodeau
Front Office Manager, GEC

Just stayed here for two nights. The room was very clean the beds and pillows were very comfortable. We loved the clean look of the hardwood floors and leather chair, much more durable than carpet, won't stain and it will last longer smart move, why more hotels are not following this concept is beyond me. The breakfast was great scrambled eggs, bacon and good breakfast sausage cooked right, and even an automatic pancake maker as well as yogurt, toast ,croissants, bananas, cereal etc. I think you got the picture. Great stay, great value.

The Holiday Inn Express in Quebec City is brand new - less than a couple years old - as of July 2011. As you walk into the lobby it smells like a brand new car - Lamborghini's at that!.

The staff at this Holiday Inn Express is the best I have seen - and I travel the world as a 1K united Milage plus member. That is over 100,000 miles a year and the staff is the best thing there is. The registration staff as well as the concierge and the lovely people who serve the great breakfast! - breakfast is free!!!! And it is excellent. From fresh eggs, sausage, Bacon, potatoes, bagels, toast, fresh orange juice, fruit, expresso, fresh coffee, hard boil eggs, wide flavors of yogurt and excellent pancakes as well as omelet. I travel alot and was on business and I stayed here 7 nights. I took the bus from in front of the Holiday Inn right down town center city - 15 minutes ride and only $3 (or $20 for 7 day (week) bus pass).

The rooms are brand new and very modern. The standard room is very large - nearly a suite but just their typical room. They even provide 2 chocolates on the bed as you check-in. The staff cleans the room very nice and it is excellently clean throughout the hotel. The staff is always friendly when you enter the hotel and leave the hotel. Anything you need they are there to help you.

The gym is modern and has mirrors and LCD TV screen in front of the trendmill. There are free weights and other machines which I have used daily. There are towels and cold water in the gym. It looks and feels like a real gym - not just machines in a back empty room. It is like one of the spa's of a large hotel.

The cost is outstanding and I recommend it for value versus cost. I stayed at the Hilton Quebec one night due to a meeting prior visit. It is 2.5 times the money and no better -seriously -the rooms of the Holiday Inn Express exactly match that of the HIlton Quebec - and I contend they are a bit larger than the Hilton Quebec!

Breakfast (Free) - at Holiday Inn Express but no other hotel including Hilton Quebec. The staff is 10 out of 10 and the cleanliness and the fact the hotel is nearly brand new - waht a deal! Try the swimming pool for a nice pleasant ending of the day! I did and it was great. Restaurants nearby are variety and I loved the french ones - the concierge at the Holiday Inn Express will book it for you. They have several people on duty day and night and serveral working kitchen during the morning!

Very close to center city and free computer usage with brand new printers and PCs. Wireless access in room is free so I can't find another hotel that gives you all this at such a great cost! When I needed taxi is was there in less than 5 minutes. They call from the front desk.
Highly recommended - it is a gem that may be hidden in Quebec City! I was quite impressed! And I stay at Intercontinentals around the world along with Holiday Inns.

Beautiful, clean, and ultra modern bathroom with tiles and granite and bar fridge built into vanity. No carpet in the room - I prefer since it feels cleaner. The room with the king bed had plenty of space for our crib and then some for us to move around. The bed is very comfortable. Free continental breakfast was standard cold stuff. The pool was a disappointment tho. From the pictures, it looked bigger, but it's actually a small hot tub like pool at the front of the hotel beside the parking lot. I would stay here again, since everything else was great.

Room Tip: booking through the hotel website seems more expensive than through expedia.

Young, friendly, unpretentious staff at the front easily forgives our awful French (and even playfully considers our marginally better Spanish just for kicks). Rooms are very clean and modern. Floors are wood laminate, not carpet - a GREAT move on Holiday Inn's part! 9 year old son loved the "free" breakfast (including the one-buttoned "crepe machine" that spits out pancakes copy-machine-style!), and I was surprised and delighted by the staff attending so well to the dining area - they deserved to have a tip jar out (and it was rightfully full).

The "pool" is actually the largest hot tub I think I've ever laid eyes on!

There are a couple restaurants (including a delightful Italian eatery) and a Metro (supermarket) within a 3 minute walk. This hotel is technically within a reasonable 600 meter 8-10 minute walk from the Ste-Foy VIA Rail train station, but you must climb a good bit of that distance along questionable shoulder and traverse a bridge over a freeway to get there - we three decided to pony up the $9.00 total for a quick taxi instead.

There is an Avis car rental at the nearby Clarion Hotel, about a 15 minute walk away.

I was more than a little disappointed by the room rate that, with GST and PST, pushed a single night into "triple deuce" range - really, Holiday Inn? Over $220 for one night?!? But, for late train arrival into a new town for a single night's stay, I'll let it slide this time.

Stayed here two nights with family (wife and two sons 11 & 8) while on New England and Canada tour. This hotel is about a 15-minute drive from the city center, but offers free parking and lower rates than I found closer in. The web site mentioned something about a shuttle, but the front desk told me it was the city bus, which you can take to the city center. There is no swimming pool, but an oversized hot tub. The breakfast was at least as good as typical HI Express with waffle and pancake makers, cinnamon rolls, bacon, eggs, etc. The staff was extremely friendly, especially considering I don't speak French. You can even exchange small amounts of U.S. currency into Canadian at the front desk.

The room was average sized with hardwood floors instead of carpet. It was very clean and everything was in good working order. The free WiFi worked ok. I recommend this hotel, especially if you want to earn or use Priority Club points.

Be sure and visit the old walled city and catch a Capitales minor league baseball game!
