Maybe it was just an off day, but I was not particularly impressed with what I got: a half-dozen loaded bagels with burnt spots all over the bottoms. Didn't inspect carefully enough to notice them until I got home. Cutting out the burnt spots, they toasted up fine.

It was interesting to watch them being made as we stood in line, which was out the door when we arrived. VERY cramped place inside, nowhere to eat. Good bagels, to be sure, but a 5-star place? Not a chance.

A must stop for us for the best bagels anywhere. The sesame ones are our favorite. We always come here when visiting Montreal and bring home around 4 dozen because we can't get these at home.

Just like I saw it on TV! You can see the workers making bagels from the counter and putting them into the oven.

I got there at 7:45 or so on a Sunday morning and there was no line.

Bagels are a bit expensive at about $1 each. The prices vary by the type you get. Be warned if you are taking bagels home, the all dressed ones are delicious but they have a VERY strong garlic smell that permeates through plastic bags.

YUM! The multigrain, wholewheat, and power bagels all have no egg or milk. Hummus is also available for purchase if you're a vegan and are able to resist eating Montreal bagels without whipped cream cheese. No seating inside, and it was raining on my last visit. A cafe at the corner of the block welcomes Fairmount patrons and makes a fine Americano.

Fairmount Bagel is a tiny store front shop. We went there on a Sunday afternoon, a short bus ride after spending time exploring a farmers market in the heart of Montreal. Expect a line, but it moves quickly because this is cash only, and bagels only (no sandwiches, cream cheese, etc.). Those wonderful, still-warm Montreal style bagels are a must-have while visiting this city. Are these better than New York style bagels? Some will say yes, some will say no. I say enjoy 'em both!
