Several evenings of dining in Montreal led us to our last meal at Les Deux singes de Montarvie & we saved the best for last. Definitely out of the way from a downtown stay but worth the cab fare. Unpretentious place with friendly staff (Shaun was very attentive & helpful), owner and a chef who has an knack for presentation and awesome tasting meals. Highly recommend the duck ravioli with creme of fois gras. The coconut curry braised quail was by far the best poultry dish we have experienced in a restaurant before. Apparently the special of the night, a baby veal dish done with blue cheese, is about to become a regular entree staple which I would highly recommend. The wine selection is limited; too bad they are not one of the votre de vin establishments which would allow some more creative pairings. Reservations are a must.

Relaxed and unpretentious - almost invisible from the street.

It's all about the food though.

Apparently the menu is about to change for the season so won't describe what we had.

Suffice to say can't wait to return.

A little bit of a store front restaurant out in Outremont / Miles End section of Montreal. Not many hotels nearby, so get a cab and go!

Quite small so reservations are a must.

It is a 'hip" sort of place, dress is quite casual.

If you are looking for classic French preparation, then it is not here. If you are looking for fresh, local and different, then this is the place.

Our dinner:
Starters: Lac Brome" Duck Breast, rubbed with Juniper and Clove, served with a salad of poached Pear, Gorgonzola vinaigrette, and roasted Pistachios.
A warm and wonderful home made tomato soup.

Main course:Home-made Lobster Sausage, served with Fennel three ways, and a compound Butter of Lemon and Dill
Boar Belly, braised with Beer and Soy, accompanied by a Parsnip and Cauliflower purée, and roasted Almonds

Cannot even begin to describe how wonderful each dish was. They were well prepared and so very flavorful. The Boar belly was perfect and not at all fatty or greasy. The Lobster sausage was so very rich.

The wine list is small, but quite nice, and reasonably price. No outdated wine list here, all on a chalk board, so it can be changed as needed.

This chef has a fantastic touch with food, and I would not be surprised to see him rise to stardom beyond Montreal.
The duck breas salad was exquisite, and very well presented.
The boar belly was fabulous, never too crispy nor too greasy, a hard feat.
Service is friendly and competent with only one regret: the chef has too small a brigade to come out from behind the open kitchen and talk to the diners. We would have loved to congratulate him!
The wine list is limited but thankfully inexpensive.
