Truly incredible experience overall. An intimate location with a very high-romance factor. Each dish was expertly prepared and accompanied by perfect wine pairings. Sit back and enjoy the magic that unfolds in front of you. Service here is excellent as servers are very knowledgeable about each dish -- we felt like we were "made love to" by food. Unforgettable.

Fabulous, inventive, creative food beautifully served.

Every dish could have been served with traditional ingredients, but instead tasty surprises abounded.

A scallop ceviche was served with kiwi. Duck with pears and apples. A floating island dessert -- instead of just the usual vanilla sauce -- was the sauce plus a medley of berries and passion fruit.

So yummy! If we lived in this neighborhood, this would be our go-to place when we did not feel like cooking.

An open kitchen allows you to watch these cooking geniuses at work. Bravo!!

Mile End trendy restaurant. Casual. Interesting and inventive food eg raw scallops with kiwi; duck ravioli with foie gas cream.... Most of the combinations work very well but some taste a bit odd and over clever. Short wine list but does offer wines at a range of sensible price points. Booked but restaurant was largely empty (on a Tuesday).
I do not think that this is the best restaurant in Montreal but represents an interesting mix of quality and creativity.

Mile End is certainly fun and vibrant and the number of excellent little restaurants is only getting higher.
Les Deux Singes de Montarvie is apparently named for the original owner (change of staff / ownership and chef 2 years ago) who on the Paris Dakar race got lost and ended up in Montarvie where a kindly lady took care of the 2 little monkeys (so covered in dirt). The place still has some of that exotic / used charm but the current chef and team serve food that is the real reason to come by. Fantastic was the raw and cooked salad; beautiful and crunchy with dressing you'd die to be able to make at home. Pasta with foie gras and pesto (just a drizzle to add punch but not even come close to overpowering this deliciously unctuous dish). The lobster sausage was truly fantastic on a bed of puréed beets with golden beets and asparagus and a little scampi on top. Apparently the bavette is their best (or at least popular) dish = we will be back soon to try it out!
Only issue is that their wine list is pretty tiny though there are some reasonable choices, especially by the glass.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. We are bilingual but had out of town guests so it was nice that English was spoken freely, not just tolerated.
All in all a wonderful spot!!
