“Average food, Very expensive !”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

I had dinner with my wife last weekend at Laloux. It's a classic on the Montreal restaurant scene, but our last visit might just be our last visit !

I had oysters will we where chating and looking over the menu. So far so good. When we made our choices, mine were good to very good but my wife's soup was tasteless and her main course was also without any flavor. Of my choices, only the foie gras would deserved to be called very good.

When the bill came, it was 300$ for two. Not the most expensive, but for the quality of the food, it just wasn't deserved.

In the end, the service was good, the decor is very nice and the atmosphere was also very good. But when the best past of the meal is the raw oysters (which of course you can buy yourself !), you just know it's not worth the price we paid.

Dear lcf 2001,

I am sorry you didn't think your meal with us was up to your standards but I want to thank you for letting us know, although we love to ear from you as you are still dining with us. It is too bad you think the value was not there because it is the core of our mission; stay as inexpensive as possible while offering food that is oozing love and attention to details. Starters are from 6$ and the main courses start at 18$. Of course foie gras and oysters are expensive products that we could not sell for less in order to keep doing business. Also, if you allow me to ask you a candid question, what was the price of the wine? that could change the price tag dramatically.

“As good as it gets”
Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

The food, for five, was all very good to excellent, but it was our waiter that made it happen. Our reservation was late in the evening, so the restaurant was clearing out as the meal progressed. The waiter had, and took, the time to recommend food and wine-by-the-glass combinations. He treated us as well as anyone could...though without food to match, it would have been just about the service. As it was, the total experience was one of the best meals I've ever had.
Food to remember: foie gras was fabulous, sea urchin (first time) foam was a gentle presentation that invites one to try it again, cassoulet with duck and goose, the dessert/wine combinations. Martin, our waiter, introduced us to wines for every course that were unknown to us, offering a taste prior to a decision. They were all spot-on. Tres bien!

This is one of those restaurants that you hesitate to recommend, because you don't want it to become too popular. Excellent food prepared in nouvelle cuisine fashion

“Awesome Dinner and Wonderful Service”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

We visited Laloux on a Tuesday evening at sat down around 8:30pm. Although we were one of the last couples to leave later in the evening, the waiter never hurried us or made us feel like we couldn't take our time. The food was wonderful! I had the scallops and parisian gnocchi paired with an awesome class of Sancerre. I don't think I've had scallops prepared that well in ages. Yum! My husband had the steak and he loved it as well. Although we were full from our entrees, we decided to order dessert based on reading some earlier reviews and we were not disappointed. We shared the "Chocolate Aero- cake and Jivara/coffee icecream, dulce de leche" and it was so awesome. It was the best! The price was reasonable considering the service and quality of the food. If we are ever back in Montreal again we plan to visit Laloux again!
