This place is famous for their Poutine. For those of you from the States like myself, you've probably never tried one of these, but if you enjoy guilty food pleasures, try the original one. Drenched in a gravy sauce, crispy french fries huddle together on a large plate and are topped off with white cheese curds. You'll feel like you gained 10 lbs. in 30 minutes from this rich and fatty delicious treat, but it will all be worth it :)

The atmosphere is very relaxed, the music they had on was Sublime and some Nirvana, so very low key. People of all ages, but the majority were in their young 20's. Word to the wise, with this hot spot being open 24 hours a day, don't drop by on a weekend night after 9pm unless you want to wait quite some time. Even with drinking a beer, my tab was only $12.00 .

We felt a bit old with the hipsters and college kids in La Banquise at midnight but the service and food quality were excellent. They had a simple selection of beer and cider but made up for it in the poutine options. It is a kilometer from Hotel Kutuma where we stayed and there were taxis outside the door when we were finished and too afraid of the cold to walk.

I had no idea poutine came in so many styles. The menu is big and caters for vegetarians. I've been twice, and both times were great. First time we ordered one small plate each and it was way too much food. Second time we ordered on large between us and it was perfect. Keep that part in mind when ordering and it works out much more reasonably priced. Good local beers on offer too.

when i went to montreal i knew i had to have a poutine. This place was said to have the best poutines but i was not impressed. Its a little over priced and its too much of a novelty i think. the gravy was ok, the fries were thick but dry inside, and the cheese was so hard it was squeaking against my teeth. Call my crazy but i still think new york fries does THE BEST poutine.
