“Good food great atmosphere”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

Not only are the soup and sandwiches excellent and the atmosphere great but there is something special about the place. The stone jungle of the city has been transformed into a peaceful place to eat really wonderful, creative and generous sized sandwiches. These sandwiches are so appealing that I did not notice that most of the items are vegetarian. Take your meat eating friends - no problem. Inside is warm, charming and eclectic. I saw a collection of dictionaries including Tagalog and Polish. Outside you will find, trees, flowers and a fish pond.

I found out that the neighbourhood was rescued from the wrecking ball by creating this restaurant. Montreal is a better place because the Santropol exists. Long may it do so.

“Santropol was wonderful”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

There is no big sign, or any sign that we could spot, but once your there, sit outside and its perfect for a good vegetarian meal.

We were seated right away but drinks took ten minutes or so. We had sandwiches and they were delicious, but they all seemed to have cream cheese in them The bread is fresh and the hummus was top notch.Medium priced menu and service was a little slow, but the cafe was very full that night

I will go there again.

Always love coming here. It can take a while to be seated but worth the wait. I highly recommend heading up to Mt Royal after, makes for a great day!

Café Santropol looks lovely. Colorful, eclectic, with pretty wall art and tons of plants; it feels like a cozy and artsy apartment. Definitely a place for casual dates with friends, or simply to enjoy a coffee and a sandwich by yourself with a good book.

Soups are served in a mug. Mine was a minestrone. My boyfriend had the blue cheese and sweet potato one. They were both deliciously comforting, perfect for a cold late afternoon in the Plateau.

In our book, Santropol wins the award for the best bread in town. It's thick, fluffy and brown. They sell loaves for a reasonable price. Don't forget to buy one on the way out!

The jalapeno jelly in the Pepper Island sandwich (cream cheese, pesto and jalapeno jelly) was more on the sweeter side than the spicy one (no heat at all, actually), but there wasn't enough of it to add "personality" to the dish. If you order this sandwich, you should ask your waitress to be generous with it, because it sure is tasty. They accommodated us by making a regular size Yelapa Moon sandwich, which usually comes as a club. This one has Hungarian cheese and fresh tomatoes. The cheese feels and tastes like a fluffier and sourer cream cheese. The dressing is served on the side of the salad, a delicate attention. Coffee here is great as well.

Recipes are simple, not mind-blowing, but the value of this restaurant lies in the freshness of its ingredients. It's as if the vegetables had just been harvested and the bread freshly baked. Service is laid-back, and it really is a place where you go to relax and enjoy a healthy and comforting meal.

“Love the sandwiches!”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

This is one of my favourite places for lunch in Montreal. The sandwiches are so good and different. Made with homemade bread and healthy ingredients. The soups and salad are also excellent. It is a nice place to relax and chat. Their terrace is beautiful. It has a "hippy-granola'' feel to it, but you feel comfortable. The only bad thing I would say is that the service is a bit slow, but always with a smile. Enjoy!
