Whereas the service at many dim sum restaurants in the city tends towards the downright hostile, all the wait staff here seem genuinely pleased to see their customers. Tables are packed into a large open space, ornately decorated, with flat-screen TVs showing old Chinese movies (volume off). It's all delightfully random and somewhat chaotic, but that is part of the charm of this place, and we always have a wonderful time. The range of dim sum dishes is very broad, so those with an adventuresome palate will have the opportunity to try unusual and authentic delicacies.

Although Ruby Rouge is always busy on weekends, they have so many tables that you never have to wait too long for one to open up, even without a reservation. Having tried many other dim sum restaurants in Montreal, this is the one we now prefer and visit regularly.

Ruby rouge has a great atmosphere and a traditionally Chinese menu with a lot of north American favorites like general Tao chicken if you don't want to go completely native. When we went they had a lobster special, 2 for $20. It was delicious! I highly recommend eating there if you want to experience authentic Chinese cuisine in montreal's Chinatown.

We had dinner on July 7 with a large party and although the service and attention we received were very good, we were also relatively disappointed with our meal.

Our meal consisted of a fried rice, fresh steamed fish, Vancouver crabs, lobster, three different vegetables, peking pork ribs, deep fried whole salted chicken, and sizzling steak with vegetables. For the most part, the fried rice, vegetables, Vancouver crab, lobster, peking pork ribs, and steamed fresh fish were very well prepared. The chicken was not prepared in the authentic manner and therefore was not very tasty at all; the sizzling steak was cut into too small pieces and therefore rendered overcooked and should have been a large cut of tender beef when prepared correctly. The meal concluded with a complimentary sweetened red bean soup that had very little red bean or taste and was probably thickened with some form of food starch.

Because we only spent one long day in Montreal we were unable to try any other restaurant for a dinner. We hope to visit the city again in the future and will definitely choose some place else.

We had dimsum for lunch there. The service was good, and the food was excellent. Wish we could go back soon.

Great variety of dim sum - bbq pork buns was very tasty with the bun being light & airy. Great service - tea & plates came fast & the food kept being served. The deep fried squid has a light batter & stayed crunchy.
