“Very busy & lively Brasserie”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

On the ground floor of an office building, this Brasserie style restaurant caters mainly to locals and to some tourists. We had brunch here on Sunday and dinner on Monday evening and at both times, it was packed. However, we got a table without reservation both times. It is really a French style brasserie; a large dining room and a bar area, many waiters, very busy and noisy atmosphere. The food is not typical haute cuisine, but honest brasserie type food, very nicely prepared and served. They have an extensive winelist, a lot of territories and not too expensive. The staff is very friendly, bi-langual and willing to explain the menu. If you are not in a hurry, say so explicitly and they take account of your wishes.

“Nice menu”

This is a vibrant and welcoming bistro with modest prices and excellent wines. Try the fish soup - really tasty.

“Holder at Montreal”
Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

Had dinner here with friends. Typical Bistro noise but we were still able to carry on a conversation over the background noise. Very good attention from our waitress who timed the meal well and got out hot meals for us. An enjoyable meal with friends.

“Good Brasserie Experience”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Recommended by our hotel as a last minute choice - Friday night + the restaurant accommodated us but I would recommend reservations. Food was excellent + service extremely atttentive from all the staff. The setting is an old bank so it is noisy but not uncomfortable. We are not bilingual at all and staff easily switch fro French to English. We had the warm goat cheese app that was great and then fish & chips that were plentiful and very tasty,as well as the lamb shepherds pie also great. Would recommend to anyone.

“Thorough excellence!”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

A perfect brasserie! Full and active on a rainy Sunday night. It's easy to walk past the entrance from the street. You hang your coats and umbrellas the the cloakroom. The room is enormous yet so bustling it seems warm and inviting, but not too loud. Around the columns are chalkboard menu specials

Chicken liver pate and beef tartare were excellent. The pate was served in a deep cup along with toasted bread.

One entree was calf's liver served with a generous helping of richly decadent mashed potatoes and a heap of caramelized onions. The other was a Shepard's pie: perfect shredded lamb over superb mashed potatoes.

We ended with an Armagnac - a nice way to top off such a heavy meal. Holder offers a very good selection of reasonably priced digestives.

Service was excellent - the wine list offered a very good range of choices.

The menu offers may good choices. Bring a hearty appetite.
