Description: Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

After reading reviews of this restaurant we made sure we made a reservation for a table, and while doing so we checked that music would be played that night. Unfortunately, they sat us at a table upstairs where we couldn't hear a thing! The food was enjoyable and the service was good, although a little slow given the small number of serving staff compared to the large number of diners. However, we left somewhat dissatisfied with not being able to hear the music that we had gone there for.

Do recommend reservations, as the music is very good, and the lambs the best! Staff is helpful and offered dinner suggestions. We were lucky to walk-in, as lots of people were turned away.

This chic urban restaurant is a nice option if you are seeking a dynamic dining experience. It's a hustle, bustle atmosphere that makes you feel connected with the "in crowd". It's not only the ambiance that is appealing. The menu has a broad reach, including classic dishes like steak frite, and more adventurous items with a flair or the Mediterranean. Wait staff is engaging, pleasant and very competent. Wine selection is satisfying and includes decent wines for a reasonable price. On the evening we dined at Modavie, there was a live jazz ensemble on the second level. But don't feel you need to be upstairs to enjoy the music. The open atmosphere lets you join in the entertainment fun from the main floor also. If you are seeking a dimly lit hide-away for a romantic encounter, choose a lower key place to whisper sweet nothings. Unless you want to be yelling sweet nothings at your date over the noise of happy diners, laughter and jazz. Don't go for the outdoor dining experience either. Modavie has jammed a couple of tables along the sidewalk, but it's a busy street with little in the way of redeeming view.

I spotted this restaurant on one of our first walks down the streets of Old Montreal. It just spoke to me so we sought it out one evening. They have live music every evening. The night we were there was a male vocalist who sang Elton John like music. The hostess led us to a table at a street-side window. I give 5 stars for our seating choice! We both chose wine from a Quebec winery...a white and a red...and both were delicous. Now I'm looking for Canadian wine in the US. Our server was attentive and fun to work with. The menu was complex with many offerings. I chose the salmon tourenadoes with rosatto which was amazing. Both entrees were nicely presented, fresh and flavorful. The decor was a bit rustic with an artisitic flair. We had an awesome dining experience and look forward to returning on our next trip to Montreal.

The rack of lamb (medium rare) was beyond description. Having had lamb in many restaurants, I have to say Lorenzo does lamb best. The risotto was also excellent. Price was reasonable. Service was great. Highly recommended.
