“Always Excellent”

The Mas never disappoints. Period.
Welcoming. An excellent place for a superb business lunch or a comfortable family dinner. The fish soup with rouille is wonderful. Tartar and frites are the best in the city. Everything on the menu is delicious and prepared skillfully and with care.

“Real Class Doesn't Change Year to Year”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013

This restaurant isn't the latest thing. Anything but! I had an unforgettable dinner here in 1978, and the most recent in 2013. Service is gracious and so professional. Clientele is not easily impressed, but knows when to stick with a good thing. Menu has classic Quebec favorites, but not cliches; neither the latest trendy fads. A comfortable, confident ambience, immune to trends of the moment.

“Very nice restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile

My wife and arrived early without a reservation. We were welcomed by the proprietor without hesitation. The food was delicious. I had the deer with basil sauce and my wife had the sole. The wine list is reasonable with lots of options, and dessert was rich and delicious. Very well priced option in Montreal.

“A Hidden Gem In Downtown Montreal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

After spending a long hot day enjoying the Rogers Cup at the tennis centre, we were looking for a nearby, quiet restaurant with good French food. The hotel concierge referred us to Le Mas des Oliviers, only 2 blocks from our downtown hotel. The exterior is unpretentious and we likely would have passed it by, had it not been recommended. However, our experience was so positive we returned the following evening.

Both nights we started with the house pate - rabbit and pistachio. We asked to share it and the kitchen staff split the order and served it very nicely on separate plates. One serving was definitely enough for two - excellent value at only $10. On our first visit both the halibut and sea bass entrees were outstanding - prepared to perfection and amongst the best we've ever eaten. We ventured farther on the menu the second night and tried the duck in cherry sauce and stag medallions with balsamic reduction - two more triumphs for the chef!

The wine list is good with a selection ranging from drinkables under $40 to others priced into the stratosphere. We enjoyed a decent priced Pinot Grigio with our fish and chose a charming Brunello to accompany our game on the second visit. Both worked out well.

Pierre, the owner, is a cheerful man and the wait staff extremely efficient and knowledgable. We'll go back next time we're in Montreal.

“As good as we remembered”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

A wonderful birthday dinner for my husband in December warranted a return visit for my birthday in July. We felt very comfortable the minute we walked in the door. The chateaubriand was as good as the last visit . We also enjoyed the pate with pistachios and the shrimp appetizer. The wine list is very extensive and there is something to suit any budget. Can't wait to go again.
