“Best soup ever!!”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

We tried this restaurant as part of the Taste Montreal event. The amuse-gueule was a squash risotto that was tasty but a bit dry to my taste. Then my wife ordered the creamy leek soup, cheese and crunchy granola. It was DELICIOUS. The best soup I have had in a while (well, my wife had it). I had ordered the porchetta di Testa, gravlax, fennel with maple and Mujol caviar. Her soup was soooo good. Then she ordered the roasted chicken waterzooï, snail, radish and parsnip, while I took the handmade blood pudding, olive and candied lemon. Both dishes were very good. Grain de Sel is known for its blood pudding so I had to try it and I was not disappointed. We finished our meal with a chocolate Terrine that was good.

“Great food, great service, great atmosphere”
Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

My girlfriend and I (who don't speak a word of French) stopped in here after reading some positive reviews and were very happy to find that they weren't at all misleading. Our server was very friendly and while her English was far from perfect she was more than happy to switch to it. The food was delicious and well presented, and the chef stopped by the table to see how we liked our meals. For the meal we got I found the price to be very reasonable. The only rub is that it is a little far out, but hop on a bixi bike and you'll get there in no time! It's totally worth the travel time.

The beet salad, the foie gras, the fish and chips and the surf and turf were amazing!! Great dining experience: great food, great place, great service, pretty good price! The deserts were not fantastic, and its the only negativ aspect, but the rest was excellent!!

“Not your typical French restaurant, creative, tasty, fast polite service”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Our first visit, with 6 adults and 2 kids. The restaurant is located close off the Jacques-Cartier bridge, so fairly easy access for South Shore folks. Parking is OK on the streets, found space less than a block away, and the neighborhood is bohemian chic.

The resto has a main room, and a smaller enclosed room in the back - ideal for company functions where you may need to do a presentation. Fits around 20 people. Quaint looking and simply, tastefully decorated.

Service: excellent. The waitress ran between the front and back, but was very available, and very informative about the different dishes. Speedy, pleasant, and helpful. As we were leaving, the chef and servers all thanked us and said bye. Nice.

Food: very good to excellent. They started with an amuse bouche of a deep fried shrimp, very pretty and tasty. The bread quality was very good and they have their own house chutneys that you spread. The corn (yellow) had a slightly sweet spiced kick, that was nice. The tomato chutney was also very good. Did not care for the green - very earthy and little off putting.

The wild pig appetizer was the best. Delicious meat on salad. The calamari done fried and then slow cooked (tender) was nice. Escargot was delicious and beautifully presented. The scallops tartare was our least favorite, but it was average, not bad at all.

The mains: avoid the deer kidneys. Very strong smell and the taste was like liver. The smell of kidney was off putting and a turn off. The braised beef shoulder - tender and delicious. The couple of fishes was pretty standard. A surprise was the boutin appetizer - nice taste, with chocolate and spices and banana and you wouldn't know you were eating - BLOOD (ie. like a blood pudding, but I couldn't stop thinking blood alone). The surf (scallops) and turf (boutin deep fried) was good. The fish and chips were excellent. Great french fries.

The prices were excellent, and very reasonably priced.

Overall, a very nice experience. Would definitely go again.

Maybe hold a company function (ie. meeting) there.
