“Nice meal”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

Visiting from Chicago. Came highly recommended. The food was standard bistro food made very well. Atmosphere in the main area is great. We were in the back area that looks more like a hallway from the restaurant to the restroom than part of the restaurant itself. The walls there are bare and the people facing the back have an unappealing view. The service was very good. The prices were fair for a good bistro. This review is a little biased in that the following evening we had a meal that was out of this world at another restaurant (rated #2 on this site). I'd recommend L'express without reservation, but suggest you wait for a table in the main area.

“a great meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

we had hoped to get into the pieds de cochons but it was full and the hostess recommended this place. we were not disappointed. it was fantastic

we got there around 930 and the place looked full. we were going to try someplace else but my husband thought we might as well check. the host was exceptionally helpful and in just a few minutes, he put together a table for us which i am pretty sure didn't exist before we walked in the door. it was a "small" table for four, and he apologized for it but honestly, it was perfect. we were next to the bussing station and it did get a bit loud but it really didn't interfere with our meal and we didn't mind it one bit.

the attentiveness continued with the waiter and the sommelier. helpful, courteous but never obsequious. the food was fantastic and there were so many choices. we were all pleased with our meals, (octopus/lentil salad, goat cheese salad, risotto, quail, and cheesecake, apple tart and apple pie for desert). the wine suggestions were spot on and the food was so complemented by the wine. i am so glad we found this place and we will try cochon tonight but if we can't get in again, i will take the hostess' recommendation for another restaurant!

“Never fails to deliver”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

Back in Montreal after a long while, decided to go here for dinner. Also, great to see they are on Open Table, much easier to make and confirm a reservation. Walking in, it hadn't changed a bit and we were immediately transported to the Parisian bistros we love. The menu was little changed. I had my usual: chèvre chaud and the onglet, which was cooked to perfection. The meal was rounded off by a light creme caramel à l'orange. The wine list is as good as ever and the service impeccable. If you go, make a reservation. Show up without one and you'll likely leave disappointed. Even the bar fills up.

“Great all around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

Food was superb. Menu is not lengthy but something for everyone, I think. Service was great too, and while the atmosphere is trendy and the setting modern the feeling is a real French bistro.

Great wine list and lots of willing help to find a good bottle.

Ate at the bar and it was just great.

“Superb Food, Authentic, But Feels A Tad Touristy...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

Superb in every way, serving up authentic dishes in a nice, airy setting on a lovely street in a very nice neighborhood of Montreal. The food is the star here. Quality and preparation that would not be out of place anywhere in France. Service is quick and pleasant. Great wine list. Feels very much a neighborhood spot but also felt like it was on everyone's to do list in Montreal. Still, one of the best meals I've had in a while.
