“It Was Better Before”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

First time we went back to this restaurant since 1992. The service was terrible and the food was below average. I ordered the 1/2 chicken and it was dry and the bun was aweful. The decor hasn't changed since we first went there and the restaurtant is way too dark. Don't think that we will be going back.

“It is what it is. You'll love it or hate it.”
Reviewed July 27, 2013 via mobile

I remembered this place from 30 years ago when I'd wait outside in subzero weather. So, being back in town, I decided to visit - the place hasn't changed - literally. Rustic with photos of 70's era Canadiens on the walls and business cards stuck in the wall panelling.

When we went, there was no line. It took a while to get seated despite a few open tables. The waitress was clearly overwhelmed - one server for an area with 7-10 tables. It took a while for her to come by and take our order, but once we placed it, the food arrived promptly.

The ribs here are very sweet. If you are used to southern bar b que, you may not like it. It's part of the uniqueness of the place. Ribs this time were neither too lean or too fat. Portions are a fair size for the price.

“Grand Prix weekend June 7, 2013”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

My first visit to Bar-B Barn and it's a must do on future trips to Montreal. Admittedly the decor is a bit rustic but it all added to the ambience. The restaurant is small and has a small bar area at the front. The food was excellent, hot and promptly served. No issues at all with the service and our server (I think her name was Marie) was very friendly. Beer can be purchased by the pitcher. The ribs are excellent and loved the menu designations - half hawg, whole hawg etc. For a bunch of tired corner workers from the track who showed up in their overalls we waited less than 5 minutes and given a table about 8.30 on a Friday night. We liked it because it was reasonably priced, just off the beaten path enough that it wasn't terribly busy (not in party hearty territory of Crescent St.), the portions were a good sized and theylet us in dressed in our track clothes!. There is a gravel pay parking lot a 5 minute walk south on the SE corner of rue Guy and Rene Levesque.

“This restaurant was hot in the 80s. Its way passed its prime.”
Reviewed July 2, 2013 via mobile

Went with a group. Had the worst service ever. The food was okay but the atmosphere and decor were very outdated. The server had no clue what he was doing. Very disapointed would definitely never go there again.

“Cool experience, but average food”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

We went there because someone in our group had been there years earlier and wanted to go there again.

The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. It was very fast and friendly service though.
