“Great Tapas, cozy and informal atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2013

we were 3 and we shared 5 different tapas dishes. Overall we enjoyed them all, but the ones that stood out were the grilled calamari and the potatoes in smoked paprika sauce. It was Saturday night and it got pretty loud due to the concert space upstairs but that is also part of the charm of the place. It is cozy and unassuming. We wrapped up with 2 desserts: the flan and the chocolate lave cake - both were really good.

“Great Paella! in the Plateau area.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

Three of us went to this restaurant which serves Spanish dishes. One had the vegetarian paella and two shared the carrot & arugula salad and seafood paella. Each dish was excellent in flavor and appearance. The mango/cumin dressing on the carrot/arugula salad was tasty & lightly applied. The vegetarian paella had an assortment of vegetables and was made and tasted very good. The seafood paella was amazing! Like the other paella it is served on a large deep dish. The rice was perfect. The consisted of a generous assortment of seafood- a whole lobster tail, mussels, clams, large shrimp, octopus. It looked too picturesque to eat and every ingredient was cooked perfectly, including the rice and peas. Our waitress at first forgot to tell us the paellas came with a green salad and flan (a nice size portion) and both were also very good. The paella meal was a very good shared dinner for two. The meal was served with a good bread. I had an inexpensive wine that was good and went well with the food. The meal for 3 before taxes/tip- $51.00 Canadian.
The restaurant is located in what appears to be a former school. The do have music. (Thursdays, early, flamenco). We wish we lived closer so that we could eat here again (and again).

“Fried Goat Cheese Balls!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2012

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Montreal and I go as often as I can. The restaurant is situated in a Spanish Community center which lends to the charm of Sala Rosa. The decor and the food aren't overdone and the prices are reasonable compared to some other tapas restaurants I have been to. Two things I recommend ordering are the sangria and the fried goat cheese balls with honey and caramelized onions, need I say more? Also if you like dinner and a show, go on Thursdays they have a flamenco performance!

“Slightly overpriced for its normal quality and portion”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

I don't dislike La Sala Rosa, but there is nothing to write home about. We tried the fried goat cheese with honey. It was innovative indeed. However the portion was too small. And after all, it was still honey+cheese. It did not taste as well as it sounded or looked. Fried kalamari was good but not really worth its price. Spanish tortilla pancake was the only thing we really liked.
The service was very friendly though and the location interesting.

“Great improvement, now food is EXCELLENT”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

Last year, the food at Sala wasn't great, expecially the paella. This time around, our group simply adored the meal. We ordered quite a few tapas and left happy and full. Service, as always, is excellent.

Just be warned though, on Friday and Saturday nights, the place is packed and quite loud. But you don't notice so much after the first bottle of wine!
