A perfect combination of subtle, delicate and inventive cooking with original and funny presentations. The complimentary (and absolutely vaporous) cotton candy with chocolates is an example of the perfect balance between serious cuisine, certainly among the best in town, and a humorous twist. The "poterie" was a perfectly cooked sea bass in an individual clay pot that you're invited to break with a small hammer. Delicate, moisted, memorable. Service is up to the par, discrete and very professionnal.
Totally worth the price. Reserve well in advance.

“As good as it gets.”

Had an incredible degustation dinner here. The food was very creative and all of excellent quality. The wine pairing was also outstanding.

Not an inexpensive place to eat, but worth visiting as a treat.

“One of the Best Meals I've Ever Had In a Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2014

Turning to the trustiness of TripAdvisor, I had high expectations for Europea although still didn't quite know what I was in for. To the previous commentators who have mentioned the "treat for all the senses," this is, I think, a very appropriate way of describing dining at Europea.

As we were being seated and handed menus, several starters found their way onto our table, including prosciutto, truffled popcorn, a cheese ravioli, and a cheese stick. It is VERY important to note that I am completely dumbing down the description of those foods so as to not ruin the surprise(s) for any future diners. I *had* thought that I had been to some really fancy restaurants (and I have been), but none of them have ever put the amount of effort and care into the overall presentation to "treat all the senses" that Europea did.

I had read articles about courses at Alinea in Chicago featuring burning tree branches to give that outdoorsy feeling to their food and Europea is pulling off many of the same "all senses" characteristics. Food came in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and vessels, including inside of books and revealed from underneath cloches full of smoke to really delight the senses of smell, look, taste (of course), and touch/mouth feel. As I said above, I don't want to reveal too much for future diners among you but you would be hard pressed to be disappointed with a meal at Europea.

I will say that while Europea offers an a la carte menu, it seems wasted at the restaurant. If you're going to go to a place like this, clearly requiring of some sort of special occasion, then you need to do it right and go for the tasting menu. Anything less is like going to a Ferrari dealership and asking to buy the salesman's used Camry. My menu featured 12 official courses listed on the menu, none of which are included in what I listed at the start of this review. As one would expect, amuse bouche, daily-baked bread and additional small bites came interspersed throughout the meal. The chef was mindful of this and not wanting to see his creations go to waste, some of the desserts (from the "Candy Tree from Guilty Land") came pre-wrapped to take home, a nice touch to extend the experience to the next day.

Europea is over the top and almost all of it works perfectly. Do I *need* to receive a Thank You for Sharing My Vision card from the chef at the start of my meal? No. Was some of the (literal) smoke and mirrors adding to the actual quality of the meal? Almost all but not quite; there were some smoke things and display items that I didn't think were necessary. With that said, if you're celebrating a special event and find yourselves in Montreal, you absolutely cannot go wrong with Europea.
