“One of my top five foody experiences”

A dinner to remember.
The service and food were both outstanding.
Lets begin with the service. It's nice to see that attentive, professional and friendly still exist. The wait staff was mostly trained in France and it shows.
Food. What can I say, we were going from one surprise after another.
I had the calamari en tagliatelle, fantastic. Some of my guests had the lobster marquise and the tartare of bison, they are still talking about their choice.
As a main, I chose the cornish hen dans le foin ( I'm usually not a chicken type of guy) great choice, others had the lobster and the veal cheeks that were apparently superb.
Desserts were a delight.
In short, an evening to remember. Way better than Laurie et Raphael at the Hotel Germain that was a total fiasco two nights before.
If you want to reward your management team, take them to Europea.
Superb wine list.

“A complete and memorable culinary experience.”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

A must whether you are a Montrealer or not. The service, attention, food and presentation is out of this world. Its no surprise Jérome Ferrer is recognized Grand Chef from Relais & Chateaux ! We were 9 people and we all gave Europea a 10! Bon appétit!

“Unique dining experience”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

If you are visiting Montreal, a meal at Europea would certainly give you something to write home about, especially if you select their multi-course tasting menu with premium wine pairings. This is what we chose for our first visit, and with coffee, tax and 20% tip, our bill came to well over $600 for the two of us. Not cheap, but this covered a seemingly endless procession of courses plus several amuses bouches and take-home treats, all served with Tony Award-worthy theatricality.

Truth be told, for a gourmet dinner I would rate Europea a rung below La Chronique, where the dishes are more consistently outstanding and better planned to tell a culinary story as you move from one course to the next. We both felt that several of the items in Europea's tasting menu ranked only slightly above average. The three standout dishes were the lobster "cappuccino" with truffles, the calamari shaped into tagliatelle and cooked al dente, and the mushroom and beef taglionis, all of which were truly exquisite, and must-haves if you choose to order a la carte. Several of the other dishes did not quite live up to their elaborate presentation, notably the Cornish game hen. The cotton candy at the end seemed gimmicky, a poor match for a meal of this calibre.

Nevertheless, the overall experience was certainly entertaining and memorable. The waiters and sommelier were engaging, and comfortable conversing in either French or English. If Europea is within your budget, it is definitely worth a visit.

“Fun serious cooking”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

Upon reviewing the prices for this restaurant, we hesitated visiting but finally decided to try it out. Upon our arrival, we were met by friendly staff is a decor that was like a theater. As soon as we sat down, free amuse bouche were brought to our table: pieces of prosciutto hanging from a drying line, cheese souffles in charming wooden boxes, sophisticated fried cheese sticks, and fish cakes served in a tin box. One was yummier than the other and discovering each made eating out more fun and entertaining. Each new food item arriving at the table was a surprise and fun to try, a bit like opening a gift.

Looking over at the tables next to us, one couple was eating bright pink barbapapa, it put a large smile on my husband's face. Another couple was enjoying foie gras seared at their table on a hot stone. We knew we were in for an exceptional evening.

The evening continued without any flaw. Excellent service by waiters that seem to genuinely enjoy their work. No pressure to purchase more items or the most expensive wine on the menu. At Europea, you will get high quality unpretentious cuisine with a twist of fun and originality. The word that comes to mind is Passion. It is obvious that chef Ferrer enjoys cooking and is doing it as an art, for the fun of it, to impress and to please.

The high cost of the food and wines on the main menu is offset by all the free bees offered by the chef. In addition to all the amuse bouche, we were offered free barbapapa and cookies for dessert. Did I forget the free brioche and macarons nicely packed and given as a gift upon our departure? Amazing!

Basically, this is food with theatrical twist. Exquisite, orignal and amusing. When in Montreal, dont miss the opportunity to enjoy a unique evening at Europea.

“fantastique!”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

This was a spendy but fabulous experience. The waiter kept bringing "gifts from the chef" that were marvelous tidbits of yumminess. I had a lobster entree, one beer, one glass of wine and a coffee and the bill was $80, but worth every penny!
