When in Montrea land visiting Little Italy, don't miss an opportunity to enjoy some fresh, delicious and inventive italian cuisine at this cosy restaurant.
My wife and I love good Italian cooking and, in a city that offers one so many choices, Cafe Via Dante really stands out. The menu is posted on a blackboad and the service is friendly and efficient.
After you eat you can stroll around the neighbourhood and visit the Jean Talon Market where the restaurant undoubtably purchases some of their menu items.

We asked specifically for 3 invoices at our arrival to the restaurant. We were given one invoice with the indication to split the amount equally between us. The staff never wanted to redo the invoices. As we were very insatisfied, they gave us a calculator with little pieces of paper to do the work! Totally unacceptable.

Don't miss their polenta, pasta and the lasagna. They have also a great variety of afordable Sangiovese Wine.

Located in a quaint neighborhood a 15 minute walk from the nearest subway station, don't miss this slice of Italy. Yes - the chalkboard menu is pretentious and a little annoying, especially with translation required from your waiter. But, mama mia, you won't be disappointed. The stuffed gnocchi starter was amazing. The lightest gnocchi I have ever tasted. My halibut entree was garnished with some amazing dried cherry tomatoes, luscious polenta, and a broccoli rabe side. We finished of course with the tiramisu dessert - a velvety smooth rendition with assertive coffee flavoring. Delicious. Don't pass up Cafe Viau Dante if traveling to Montreal.
