“Great Value for Luxurous Room with So Many Perks”
Reviewed November 21, 2009

The front desk service was excellent. Check-in was a breeze and personnel were very friendly. Concierge kindly recommended suggested running routes for me. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The twin jacuzzi in my room was a nice bonus.

The location of the hotel itself is practically at the heart of the city. Steps away from Old Montreal and Chinatown and walking distance to the rest of downtown.

There was also great perks: included hot breakfst and drink tickets during happy hour. That was a very nice bonus and the bartender is extremely kind. She was able to coerce the kitchen into making pizza even though it was not on the menu. That is going above and beyond, because she was very busy.

We were staying in Montreal for a week and planned to book a suite type hotel. We actually had a different hotel booked when a deal came through on Travelzoo for the Embassy Suites by Hilton that was a little cheaper than the original one we'd booked so we switched bookings. I'm glad we did. The square where we would have been staying was bogged down with construction and it would have been noisy and dusty all week. Embassy Suites is on Rue San Antoine right across from the Convention Centre, Palais de Congress, which includes a Metro stop and gateway to the underground network. You walk up a short incline beside the hotel and you're standing across from Notre Dame Basilica and have Old Montreal at your feet, with shops and restaurants and all the old streets and buildings. You're spoiled for choice! On the other side of the hotel, you're a block or two from Chinatown and Only a few blocks from St. Catherine's street going north and the Bell Centre going west. We walked most places and only took the Metro a couple of times.

The hotel itself was clean and the staff were always helpful. The suite was a King suite with the bed in a seperated "room" that you could close off with sliding doors. The bed was quite comfy and the pillows awesome! I think the living room couch was a sofa bed, as well. The bathroom was large and it had a jacuzzi tub. I couldn't figure out how to turn it on but hit the control by accident so that was sorted! Plenty of hot water, lots of towels and soaps. They brought up some dishes and cutlery but you do have to ask for that. We didn't bother getting the dishwasher unlocked because we weren't planning on cooking, just using the microwave for reheating and we washed up coffee cups by hand. Having read the reviews, I already knew to bring my own dishcloth and towel for that.We didn't see a supermarket nearby but there is a convenience store in the convention centre and a couple in Old Montreal as well.

Breakfast was included and it was a full cooked breakfast if you wanted. You could have your eggs any way you wanted and if you want omelets, you put the ingredients you choose into a little bowl and hand it to one of the chefs. There is fresh fruit, croissants and pastries, bagels, toast, cereal (a couple of choices, in little packets), juices, coffee and tea ( though my partner thought the coffee was a bit on the weak side). Every night there is a "manager's reception" and they give you vouchers for two free drinks per adult guest. We took advantage of this a couple of nights. Only one caveat, though, the only beer that is covered by the free vouchers is Keith's draft on tap. Other than that, all mixed drinks and, I think, glasses of wine are included. We had a couple of cocktails that would have cost $12 to buy so I don't know why they won't include bottled or other types of beer in the free drinks but it doesn't really matter.

As i said before, the staff was always helpful and friendly and any questions asked were cheerfully answered. The concierges were great help too, though one did direct us to a restaurant in Old Montreal that was only open at lunch on that particular day. Oops! There's free wifi in the hotel lobby and i was able to get it in the suite once or twice if i was still connected from being in the lobby but usually it wanted a log in password. I didn't bother calling to get that because i only have an iPod touch anyway, not a laptop so it wasn't a major consideration.

Apparently there is a temporary fitness centre in one of the suites on the second floor. I didn't see it but i imagine it's pretty basic. I don't think parking is free but there is parking beneath the hotel and there is a laundry facility on one of the parking levels too with coin operated machines. It feels a bit remote though, i am not sure i'd feel all that comfortable using it on my own. There is a small business center that is free for guests to use, with two PCs though some websites are blocked (social networking ones). The restaurant is basic, and doubles as the bar and breakfast room. Room service choice isn't extensive but it covers the basics. We had a very nice burger and fries which was very reasonably priced considering how expensive room service food usually is.

I'd recommend the hotel for the location and the great staff.

We really enjoyed having a kitchen, it's so handy to be able to save leftovers in a fridge and keep your drinks cold! We were pleasantly surprised to receive 2 free drinks per day per person. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and quiet. Good locations, just a short walk to Notre Dame. The breakfast buffet was somewhat of a madhouse, but can't really complain since it's free.

The overall service of the front desk staff was wonderful and the room lovely and spacious. The hotel was walking distance to many nearby attractions including Old Montreal and the metro. But perhaps the most disappointing experience with the Embassy Suites included the poor service offered during the mad rush at breakfast. The hotel clearly does not have the ample seating area or staff to accommodate hotel guests for breakfast. Tables were piled high with dirty dishes and guests were forced to wait in long lines for food and drinks.

Thank you for your comments on the hotel and pointing out the strenths of our staff and the rooms. The breakfast area has seen many changes over the past while. I noticed that the date of the stay was indicated in August. We have seen more traffic in the past while due to conventions and groups and we are now opening up our meeting space area when available for the overflow. I will pass the comments to our restaurant staff to look into this. Your comments will help ensure that we continue to grow and learn from comments from our guests that use our services. We look forward to seeing you in the future.

We had a family trip to Montreal to and we stayed in the two bedroom suite at this hotel. The hotel is beautiful. It was very clean and so spacious! The kitchen was very nice...granite countertop too! The breakfast was cook to order and everything was so delicious! We will definitely be staying here anytime we visit Montreal again!

Stayed for 3 nights pre-cruise and was very pleased. From the moment we arrived the check-in was pleasant and efficient and the concierge was wonderful arranging for our luggage to be delivered to our room and recommending a great Italian restaurant within walking distance. Location is convenient for visiting Notre-Dame and Old Montreal. The RES (underground city) is within 1 block and took us all over Montreal.

The hotel was very clean and spacious. More than enough room and the free wi-fi was very reliable. Bed was very comfortable and the separate living room was a bonus. There was a HUGE jacuzzi tub that looked inviting which I did not use. Breakfast was a little crowded in the mornings but was always able to get a table. Check out was also efficient and the concierge arranged our luggage and a taxi for us to the dock and we did not have to touch our bags the entire morning.

We would definitely stay here again when we go back to Montreal. The price was less than $180.00 USD and well worth the money.

Stayed one night pre-cruise. Booked a great AAA rate with corporate website. Family members opted for a bit more pricey room and was that a good decision! Our room was a queen/non-suite and it was tiny! It had a little kitchen and a nice bathroom (albeit small) but it was DARK! There were about 3 overhead lights and a couple dim bedside lamps. We did the best we could. The other folks got an apartment complete with full kitchen, huge bath, and proper lighting in the living room and separate (with door) bedroom. Go figure.
The lobby was as dark as the room and the weather was grim and wet when we arrived about 9PM so we stayed at the hotel for supper which okay but we had been so looking forward to finding a nice bistro nearby.
Breakfast was a zoo - the weekend we were there was Canada's thanksgiving and the hotel was packed with families and groups and who knows what else. We toughed it out and basically hung around the apartment (not our little cell!) for awhile before venturing out into the area.....we did a bit of pre-cruise shopping then checked out.
Overall, I'd recommend this hotel IF you get a big room.

Thank you for your feedback on the room. As pointed out the non suites are 450 square feet where the suites are 600 square feet . . Some times the energy efficient bulbs we use loose their strength over time and when the rooms are being made in the day it is not easy for the housekeeping staff to be aware of it. I will pass on the comments regarding the lighting in the rooms to our housekeeping staff to check the rooms in the evening. We look forward to your return in the future.
