“Mostly good stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2014

The kids found a used band-aid in the bathroom shortly after our arrival, and the pull-out couch in the suite was significantly angled down toward the head. Other than that, the hotel was clean, fairly quiet, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast selection was very good, and even included a made to order section. The location was very central to many Montreal attractions.

This hotel is in a great location! The staff was very friendly and personable. The rooms are very clean, spacious and decorated nicely! We would definitely stay here again if we return to Montreal. Allow plenty of time for breakfast as the lines for food become quite long and seating in the dining room is limited. My only complaints were that the hallway smelled like cigarette smoke& that the entrance to the parking garage is not well labeled and it is easy to miss!

The location of this hotel can't be beat as most of the major tourist areas are within walking distance. We parked our car and just left it there for the entire 2 days of our stay. The room was clean and comfortable but there were a few minor annoyances. There was no coffee maker in our suite. There wasn't a single light in the room bright enough to read by - especially the nightlights by the bed. And there was no way to turn the night light off in the bathroom. All minor issues.

We were each given two free drink coupons for each day of our stay to be used at happy hour which starts at 5:00 pm. We thought this was a nice touch.

The included breakfast was, on the whole, very good -- a great choice of buffet items and also a place to get made to order food. The only problem is that the space along the buffet was small and people were going in both directions at once and running into each other. It would be a simple fix if they just posted Enter and Exit signs and got people to go in one direction.

Be aware that you can only get free Wi-Fi in the lobby. In the room it's $10.00 per day. And the login to the Wi-Fi is sometimes difficult as it frequently takes you to the paid site rather than the free site. I was constantly clearing my browser cache. I am surprised that there are still hotels out there charging for in-room Wi-Fi.

The staff were very helpful - especially the guy in the parking garage who helped us escape. The instructions on the ticket were only in French and you have to go through a few steps to use the in-out card provided by the hotel.

I would stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is located just blocks from old Montreal yet very close to the newer business district. We had excellent service as well. We were using points and we were actually upgraded to the Presidential Suite. It was very large, but was strangely laid out (example, with all the seating in the large living room, none was facing the TV or fireplace), but it was a nice treat! The happy hour was chips/salsa and veggies/dip, where other Embassy Suites I've stayed in had hot appetizers also. There is a nice outdoor patio adjacent to the restaurant. All in all a nice enough place, and the location makes it a great choice.

I expected a high level of quality from Embassy Suites, having stayed at many Hilton hotels around North America. In addition, for the price you pay to stay at this hotel, the room better be perfect. IT WAS NOT. 1) The hallways smelled like wet dog. 2) The A/C in our room was broken and could not be fixed for our entire stay. The room was hot and humid. 4) The A/C made a loud noise and was located in the bedroom, making it impossible to get any sleep. We had to sleep on the uncomfortable pull out couch for our whole stay. 4) The phone only worked on speaker. 5) For a room with a kitchen, you would expect dishes, utensils, cups, etc., there were none, making it just something nice to look at, but not worth the money. 6) The jets in the tub did not work and it took 45 minutes to fill the tub with water. 7) The restaurant is severly understaffed and it took over 45 minutes to get food. 8) In relation to the broken A/C unit, it took maintenance over 3 hours to come check on the issue, the technician replaced the filter, but the A/C unit kept freezing over, causing the unit to break and rumble. 9) For such a big bathroom, the shower stall is incredibly small and for anyone over 6 feet it is a danger to even move around in the shower. 10) After notifying Hilton about this issue, they sent my feedback to Embassy Suites (I had already spoken with them), and when I wrote another email to Hilton regarding my disappointment with these issues, I was ignored and I am still waiting for a response after almost 1 week.

Luckily there are many hotels in downtown Montreal and future travelers can avoid this place.

Room Tip: Do not stay here.

Embassysuitesmtl, Director of Sales at Embassy Suites by Hilton Montreal, responded to this review, July 31, 2014
Dear 640Traveler0808,
Thank you for your response on your stay with us via TripAdvisor.
Your honest input is appreciated and we offer our sincere apologies for not meeting your expectations for comfort and service.
We apologize again for the technical difficulties you experienced during your stay with the air conditioning system and the jet bathtub which have been fixed.
Concerning the cutlery and plates that weren’t present in the kitchen, we try to keep the items to a minimum to keep the room clean and uncluttered. This is also why we only leave a starting set for 2 people and have a note in each room indicating that clients may call the reception for more, if necessary.
Regarding the restaurant, we are also regretful that you had a poor experience; we were indeed very busy with the number of participants of the group that was present. We truly want to be better prepared for next year’s event.
We understand and assure you that this was an exceptional circumstance and are learning through all feedback we receive.
It is our understanding that you have also shared your concerns directly with the team when you were here and with Hilton customer help.
After the team resolved the issue with you at the reception and offered a significant discount, we can assure you that one of our directors also sent another apology dating from July 17th in response to your email but we never received a reply back since then.
We take complaints seriously and are very sorry about all the unfortunate circumstances and inconveniences you experienced during your stay.
If we may be of any additional assistance or if you would like to discuss your stay further, please do not hesitate to contact our offices directly. Best regards.

The location is great for downtown Montreal in that we were able to walk to all our activities. The front desk staff was very helpful for all our questions. In error, our reservation was made for a smoking room. The hotel was full so we were unable to change rooms. One of the workers brought in a vent type device to help get rid of the smoke smell, but it did very little. Nice gesture though. The air conditioning in the room was very noisy and we could not get the temperature below 22. My husband said that the couch needs replacing. There is no pool or hot tub. Parking was $26 a day. The suite has a full fridge and microwave, sink. The included breakfast was appreciated. There were a lot of people so you had to go early or fit the crowd if you were later. There was seating outside which was a nice touch. The hotel staff tried their best to clean the tables and keep the food stocked. We have stayed at many Embassy suites in Michigan, South Carolina and Florida and this was very different than the standard. Wifi was not included. We ended up getting it as we just left an Embassy Suite in the Boston area that Wifi was included and asked the front desk and they gave it to us.

Room Tip: Make sure to check for a nonsmoking room.

Beautiful hotel in the middle of Old and New Montreal. The rooms are great, huge with a kitchenette, sitting area bedroom and gigantic bathroom.
The bathrooms boasts a jetted tub, separate shower and two mirrored areas so multiple people can get ready at the same time. The bed was comfortable but the pull out was not that great. Also our air conditioner was not working properly, so we were very hot most of the evening and could not open the window. As well we had a view of an alley way under construction so that could've been better.
The hotel staff was great, we ate at the restaurant for supper, if you do that don't go during the free drink hours, it's a bit nuts and you can get lost in the shuffle if you are ordering from the menu instead of taking part in the snack and drink portion of the evening. It's a great idea, I love it, just don't try to do supper then is all I'm saying.
The breakfast buffet! Oh my gosh, best breakfast buffet I've ever had, it had pretty much anything you could want and the best bacon on the planet. A little busy but most people are polite and you'll get your turn and go back for seconds!
