Really disappointing place. I had booked a private room based on very positive ratings I found on the web. I was quite surprised it had managed to score so high when I got there. The room was bare bones in terms of decor: just a single bed, an empty shelf and a small desk. The absence of any decoration coupled with the old and ugly furniture made it pretty sad looking and unappealing. It was fairly clean though. The building itself is old and lacks character. Not much effort has been put into redeeming it by making it look nicer or more appealing. The bathroom downstairs was surprisingly run down. One of the wall panels had a huge hole in it. There was no door separating it from the adjacent lounge, only a veil. There was no toilet paper in my stall and only one mirror for the whole bathroom - Not practical when getting ready in the morning or at night. Finally, there was only one shower for the whole hostel.... Another pain in the [--], especially when everyone needs to use it at the same time. Otherwise, the breakfast was an OK, no frills type. Tim, the owner, did not let me print out a bus ticket which I realized just an hour before leaving was a requirement for boarding. His unwillingness to help even though I had stayed with them was very disappointing and added to an already stressful situation...

I'm sure I could have found a better place for the cost and would advise people to look for a more pleasant and welcoming hostel.

This is an old, unkept property. Bathrooms and bedrooms are minimally serviced. There was no breakfast despite being promised, keys work sometimes, and other times not. It might be okay if you;re a 20 year old traveler looking to couch surf. However, definitely not a place for those seeking amenities. However, the area "Village" teems with energy, night life, lively characters, and good restaurants. "Diver site" this week bringing lots of LGBT crowds.

I am struggling for appropriate words to describe this place. Despite the overall negative experience I had there, there are some positives that it would be unfair not to mention.

Positives: Very friendly, very well situated, helpful in accessing community resources, and has a rooftop patio. That being said... ohhh, the negatives.

Negatives: Bullying owner, incompetent staff, dirty, loud, and lacking organization or any understanding of customer service.

In my opinion, anyone would be crazy to stay here with all the well-priced B&Bs with friendly owners in the neighborhood. I recommended this place for single travelers who need a flop-house, aren't willing to pay a little more for better customer service and better quality lodging, and enjoy being manipulated and treated like children.

It's a nice place. An old building, something very normal in Montreal. it's a hotel with rooms with average price of CAD$ 60 and a dortoir (hostel) on the first floor with rooms as CAD$ 21. For this price (i was at the hostel for 16 days) you get a bed to sleep on, sheets, pillow, breakfast (orange juice, milk, cereals, fruits, sliced bread and jam) a big loung with tv, dvd, some board games and in winter the possibility of using ice skates.

The service was good, had a great time with Hernan, Mouri, Tim, Pierre and lucien. No complaint at all, if you're young you'll find many other guys like you staying around the city for a couple of days so everynight there will be someone to talk with. If you're older may be you'll want more privacy and rent a room for yourself at the hotel. There's an atmosphere of friendship all around, in summer you'll get even barbecues at the terrace. Definitively, a nice place you can chooses for staying in Montreal.

I stayed in this hostel/B&B recently with a friend of mine and found it to be OK but I don't think I would personally choose to stay there again.

The best thing it has going for it is that is very cheap/ good value for money and it is within walking distance to most of downtown/ old town.

Our room was fairly small but big enough for two, however there was nowehere to store belongings. The room simply had a set of bunkbeds and a table and that was it. The bed itself was comfy but we were only given a thin set of sheets so it was quite cold at night.

I also found the place to be quite dingy and in need of some modernisation, the downstairs bathrooms especially. There were big holes in the wall in the female toilets and the shower room was a bit
damp. Apart from one other shower/ toilet on the first floor these were the only bathrooms we saw, considering the number of rooms
this really didn't seem sufficent.

There was a lounge with TV/DVD/CD player but it wasn't very private so you got disturbed everytime someone walked through the main corridor or sat at the dinning table, not to mention the TV could be clearly heard from our room and we were quite a way from it. The place could be quite noisy when it was full.

Two good points were free internet access and also free breakfast. Although there wasn't a great deal of choice for the breakfast (cereal, breads and fruit) it was free and considering how cheap it is to stay there it was a nice touch.

Overall as I said I don't think I would personally stay there again, I would prefer to pay just a bit extra and have a few more creature comforts, however if budget is a big factor to you then it is a good choice.
