“old, worn out, out of the way”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2012

lobby was small, did not seem professional, something was off about it

i am young and english... for some reason they gave me a room that was the farthest from the elevator... at the end of the hallway... hotel was empty... and they still gave me a lemon of a room... room was gross. it was prob never nice. (where are the good rooms?)

old dated worn out room. carpet frayed almost a foot long. cheap cheap cheap. pvc vinyl etc
HONESTLY FIX THE FRAYED CARPET!!! AT LEAST CUT IT... IT LOOKS TERRIBLE!!!!

kitchen stank of fish... had to open window, febreeze, and smoke to get smell away!!!
fishy smell was back by next morning. the furniture is like being in student housing... plastic

Room Tip: ask for a NICE room... otherwise you may get the fish room...

Thank you for your comments.

We deeply apologize for the frayed carpet and the odor. We will definitely take a look at all our carpets to make sure they look better in the future. As far as the fish smell, we are presently fixing our ventilation system in order to avoid those strong smells from other suites.

Kindest regards,

Simon Gadbois

Stayed one night in room 1409 on the 14th floor.
Pros: great price, clean and spacious room, nice kitchen and living room, TVs in both living room and bed room, polite staff
Cons: the towels didn't look good, maybe they were too old. I did not have a real blanket, it was more like a towel!

Totally I would really recommend the hotel as it was way better than what I expected for my first experience in a suit.

This Candlewood is on the same bulding as the Holiday Inn Express hotel and they are owned by the same company. Candlewood is a limited service hotel concept and you should adjust your expectations accordingly.

My Priority Club Platinum statys was acknowledged at check in and I was given a change to roll a wheel for bonus points. Unfortunately, I didn't win anything but was given a voucher for a free soft drink.

I had a nice one room "suite", bit I wouldn't really call it a suite. It was rather one big room. You have a full kitchen with a dishwasher.

This hotel is ok for a longer stay but don't expect the usual hotel amenities.

Thank you for your comments.

As a Platinum Priority Club member, we always appreciate your feedback. What I like is that you take the time to explain the uniqueness of our hotel and brand in terms of services. Those remarks will definitely clear up our future clients expectations.

Booked a suite for 5 people with 2 queens and a sofa. Nonsmoking room smelled like smoke. Kindly given a new one. Sofa bed wasn't made. Then not enough sheets available in the room for the sofa bed.
Hotel kiosk had good variety of items. Room was very cheap. Which compensated for other issues.

Thank you for your comments.

We appreciate your honesty and we are presently in the process of improving our ventilation system. Also, our housekeeping department will now make sure a sufficient number of sheets are always available in all our one-bedroom suites.

Sincerely,

Simon Gadbois

Before boarding our cruise ship, we stayed one night at the Candlewood Suites. The room was very clean, with a full kitchen, flat screen TV and free Wi-Fi. My husband loved the recliner that was right in front the TV. The property is only 2 blocks from Chinatown, filled with lots of restaurants and shopping. Also, 3 blocks away is an IGA grocery store. The downside, is that property does not have an ice machine and the ice trays in the freezer were not used. We bought a bag of ice from IGA. Also, the refrigerator had a humming sound that you had to get used to before falling asleep. On the plus side, the front desk people are very accommodating and helpful. Parking is underground at $20.00 per day. Now that we know our way around the property, we will stay there again!

I just returned from a 3 night weekend away in Montreal. This was my first visit to the city and to this hotel.
We arrived very late after several flight delays. My first thought after arriving at the hotel was that this certainly wasn't a fancy place. The person on the desk was more than friendly and helpful. We arrived at 1am and his pleasant service was certainly welcomed (I wish I could remember his name).
When we stepped off the elevator on our floor we both took note of the foul smell in the hallway. It smelled old, and stale.
Our suite was fine. Plenty of space overall. While we didn't use the fully equipped kitchen I can appreciate its benefit - should note it come with plenty of dishes and utensils, it even had some Tupperware containers to use. The living room space was a bit on the small side, but was fine for our needs. We found the bed to be quite comfortable, and the bedroom had more than enough space.
Because we found the room to be quite warm and were unable to adjust the heat ourselves we asked to have someone look at it for us and lower the heat a few degrees. When we returned at the end of the day we found the room to still be warm and the thermostat to still read the same temperature as when we left in the morning. It would appear no one came by to fix the issue, but since we were out all day it is really hard to say. We ended up opening some windows and just dealing with the street noise.
Location wise we found it suited our needs just fine. We had easy access to the Latin Quarter, Chinatown was just across the street and Vieux Montreal was just a short walk away. We could easily walk to most places we needed on St Catherine's Street, and just a 5min walk away was a subway terminal.
Service wise overall everyone was great. There was one girl on the desk who was less than friendly. She seemed annoyed when ever I was at the desk for something - which wasn't often. We had arranged to have a slightly later check out time. However at 11:45 (before their usual 12:00 check out) we got a knock on the door asking if we were leaving at 12:00. It isn't even check out time and you're already trying to hustle people out the door?
Overall we had a fine stay. The hotel is a bit dated decor wise, however everything appeared clean. It could just use a facelift. I would consider staying here again.

Thank you for your comments.

We really appreciate your feedback as we always try to improve our service. Your remark regarding the temperature inside the room was very constructive as we will now make sure we always follow up on service calls. As far as the smell in the hallway you are referring to, we are presently working on a better regulation of our ventilation system.

Sincerely,

Simon Gadbois

This was my first time in a Candlewood Suites hotel and I was very pleased. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. As a Priority Club Member I got an unexpected upgrade to a huge 2-BR suite. It was a lot more space than I needed, and a nice surprise. The other surprise was the wheel of fortune game for additional club points. When I got a zero, I was given a consolation prize of a free beverage of my choice.

The location is about 3 or 4 blocks from the Old Port, Chinatown and the IGA. In nice weather, it's OK, but during Winter it might be a bit brutal. Garage parking is available for a fee, so the car will stay warm and safe.

I would definitely come back to this hotel, especially if I had family or friends with me.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the courtyard, not Blvd. Rene-Levesque.
