This planetarium is unique in that it has two shows: one show is a music and visual representation of space, and the other is your standard planetarium presentation. The shows complement each other very nicely. The planetarium also has some high quality interactive displays with information about the science of space. If you are going to purchase tickets to the Planetarium as part of a package (i.e. with the Biodome, Insectarium, Botanical Gardens, or Olympic Stadium), I would recommend purchasing online or at the Planetarium directly as they list the show times that are available and the language of the shows (shows are either French or English).

We debated whether to go to the Planetarium with our 5 year old. He is space-obsessed (thanks Chris Hadfield!) but he's noise-averse; in the end, we decided to bring his noise-reducing headphones, and we're glad we went and that we brought the things!

What was not clear to us was that you get 2 shows when you pay for your ticket. In between (and before) you can explore the very interactive, super-cool area that has all kinds of hands-on stuff to check-out about space - there are smart-screens galore, lots of stuff to touch, to do, and to see, and we had a hard time extricating the kid to go and see the show...

The first show is 20 minutes long, and is an amazing display of visuals with a Philip Glass sound-track. It's not about science at all, but it's very accessible. You can either sit in a Muskoka chair, or lie on a bean bag on the floor- the bean bags are super-comfortable for kids and grown-ups alike, it turns out.

It *is* noisy. They actually told us before we bought our tickets that they only recommend it for kids 7 and up, which was fair, but they noted it was really mostly because it gets loud. Our son loved it (with his headphones on) except for the "rocks exploding" part, but he wasn't frightened.

In the end, after a very busy morning, we decided not to push our luck with the 40 minute "traditional" show, since our boy was getting really tired, but we will plan on going back to see it some time, and not doing the Biodome first, so that he's not wiped out.

All in all - it's a lovely new facility, and well thought out. I enjoyed the "arts" show very much and got lots of science out of the rest of the Planetarium.

We'll be back!

Terrible experience. Paid for french show because I was unable to see the later english show and was all but physically attacked. I was told that I didn't belong in that show and must leave the theatre, I had three security officers on me and I refused to move as I knew I was in the right. The only way I got the security guard (who was uncomfortably close) to back off was to ask why there were no english translations in thier main lobby attraction. This is Canada isn't it?????

The Continuum show was good, different style and was pretty neat sitting on bean bags looking up at the "sky" the creative interpretation of our sky..the second show the Milky way in the auditorium hasn't changed much except for the nicer seating, and felt uneventful for me. Its a good location next to the Biodome, Insectarium and Olympic park, so you can visit all these sites in one day if you want!

There were actually 2 shows at the new planetarium. One was a traditional Planetarium Show which was well done. The other show was more of an immersive experience where you take your shoes off and lie on large bean bag chairs and take in the 360 degree musical and visual show. The exhibits in the waiting area were also well done.
