THe whole experience was bad bad bad. We reserved for 8pm. A half hour later they tried to seat us (4) at a community table. This is not Shwarts'. They moved us, after we requested our own table. The so-called lobster ice wine was a matan shrimp ice wine. The food.... chowder was good but not hot, the pasta was overcooked with matan shrimps again. The only good thing was the dessert (cake). oh yes it was 100 degrees in the place. The people in the table next to us were as disappointed as we were. Never again. Don't bother.

We had planned an overnight visit to Montreal for last Sunday night so I bought a Groupon for this restaurant the previous week. After purchasing the Groupon, I called the restaurant on Friday to make a reservation, so we were to have supper at 6:30 on Sunday night. We arrived in Montreal at about noon on Sunday and spent the day shoppping. We were running a bit late so I called the restaurant to push back our reservation by half an hour to 7:00. The owner got on the phone and said the restaurant wasn't open that day; he said they had had a very good Saturday night, so he decided not to open on Sunday. What kind of restaurant does that? Decides to not open based on the previous day's profits, disregarding the commitments they made to people that were coming for supper that evening? So we were left scrambling to find a place to eat last minute; its a good thing I called to push back the reservation as we would have paid for a roundtrip taxi ride to a closed restaurant. I think it turned out okay though, as most of the reviews here are very negative for this place, and we found a nice Italian restaurant within walking distance from our hotel and had a lovely supper there (Bis Ristorante).

This, like many places in old Montréal looks like a small place from the street, but opens out into a large room that nevertheless is full of warmth and packed with character. Service was delightful, and the menu interesting. They serve seafood as a speciality, but there are good veggie options. It's rustic, and a bit middle eastern in character, with a great atmosphere. Pricing is realistic. Recommended.

Without first reading the reviews, we purchased the groupon coupon for this restaurant and went last night.
We both ordered the seafood chowder and seafood pasta. The chowder had an awful taste. The seafood pasta literally had 2 small shrimp on top. The sauce apparently was a curry sauce but tasted nothing like that. It was supposed to be "gratineed" but instead there was a clump of over cooked cheese right on top. Pasta was hard and sitting in oil. We decided to skip dessert all together and asked for the bill. The tip was included in the bill and it was $18! The tax and tip is based on the full price of the meal, not on the price we paid with groupon.
The waitress was nice. Seemed like she felt bad that we hated our food and she didn't charge my fiancé for his coke.
Never again. We learnt our lesson: always read the reviews first!

For Valentine's Day, our husbands planned for a surprise double date. All of us being big on seafood, they found a restaurant in old Montreal we had yet to try. Only to later find out, that their menu & glorified description of meals was the only thing they had going for them. The only descent part of the meal was the bread that was brought to our table before the meal & the wine that we ordered.

Our waitress had a difficult time remotely smiling as she approached our table to take our orders. You can only imagine her reaction & attitude when she was asked to take a picture of our table, (the people dining next to us would've had a more welcoming reaction).

Now for the food. We all ordered seafood bisque as an appetizer, seafood gratin pasta as the main course & lemon cheesecake as desert. The seafood bisque as well as the pasta claimed to be full of scallops, lobster, calamari, shrimp, clams, cod & crab, You would find more seafood in a frozen dinner, The bisque was stuffed with potatoes & a thick pasty substance to compensate for the lack of seafood, it tasted like it was out of a can. Our pasta had a bulk of cheese in the middle, with 2 small sad shrimps backed in it & the rest was a watered down tomato sauce. I asked the waitress to bring us some Parmesan to compensate for the dull taste & texture of this glorified seafood pasta dish. To finish off with our deserts, the cheesecake's taste & texture was one from a jell-o desert.

We shared our disappointment with the chef (very arrogant man) & surprisingly enough he responded that this wasn't the restaurant for us...It seemed we had touched his ego. Terrible restaurant. All four of us love to travel & try out new locations, I have to say that this was a once in a lifetime experience. Absolutely awful dining experience
