“An Old Favourite”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

I have been going to Snowdon Deli on and off for over 40 years. It's an old time Montreal deli with a good selection of deli meats and smoked fish, knishes, potato latkes and salads. They sell the BEST party sandwiches and miniature Danish. On my recent visit, with friends, we were disappointed with the smoked meat sandwiches that we ordered. Previously, I thought that they were pretty good, but this time they did not come close to the heavenly tastes of those served at the famous Schwartz's on Boulevard St. Laurent or Lester's Deli, located on Bernard Street. The fries that we ordered were tasty and had just the right amount of oil and crispiness to make them a treat, along with sour pickles. Although it was a sodium nightmare, it was a treat, even with the disappointment of the smoked meat sandwich. We had ordered "old fashioned", but perhaps that was not what we were served since it was not as good as I remembered.

For dessert we ordered apple cherry strudel and apple cherry crumb cake, both of which were very good and reminded us of days gone by. The service was pleasant and friendly.

“Old Style”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

This is an old style Montreal Deli that has been around for more than 60 years. The smoked meat and fries are amazing. The staff is friendly, in a hurried move out of my way sort of manner. If you are not near Schwartz's and want a Montreal smoked meat experience, this is one of the better choices.

“Montreal deli "lite"”
Reviewed December 1, 2012 via mobile

This Montreal institution serves smoked meat and other deli specialties as good as anywhere in the city. And all in a pleasant environment with waitresses who don't insult or humiliate you.
We stopped in for lunch on our way into town and more than satisfied our craving for smoked meat. We ordered the smoked meat platter - equal to meat from 1 1/2 sandwiches on a plate with another plate of rye bread. So you can make your own sandwiches with as much or as little meat as you want. Be sure to order the meat with some fat - not lean. It came with a plate of their to-die-for, typical Quebec double fried French fries.
For a sweet, we had a couple of their two-bite cinnamon Danish. Remember, however, that in a Kosher-style establishment, the sweets aren't usually made with butter, and so, aren't quite as rich.
That was enough for lunch. But on our way out of town we're stopping in to pick up some smoked fish from their fabulous selection. I saw smoked sable, whitefish and others. And we'll get some sliced tongue to take home. Yumm!
