“check out Fromagerie Atwater”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

We went here specifically to buy cheese from Fromagerie du Presbytere, which has won a couple of awards recently. The woman who helped us at FA knew exactly what we wanted and offered a suggestion for a third cheese to round out the selection - she was exactly right. They have cheese from all over the world, so you'll find something wonderful!
We didn't really check out the rest of the market (we had a 7 hour drive ahead of us), but the flower shops are gorgeous and we were awed by the sheer volume of tomatoes (and other veggies).
So, this will be our first stop as we head into town from now on.

Why doesn't Boston have one of these yet? As a visitor, its a must see if you want a quick bite to eat or enjoy "gourmet" food. More manageable than the other market in town and better located, near the Lachine Canal recreation area. A must is Premier Moisson, the amazing bakery at the rear. We bought typical things - croissant - and also some remarkable raspberry stuffed bread (like a calzone) and chocolate bread. Also a great stop for food related gifts, smoked meat sandwiches, etc. Note, some of the food court vendors may not be open on weekends. Nearby metered parking was easy.

“Great place to visit and hang out for local colour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

Great local produce around the perimeter of the market. Outstanding butchers upstairs and the ground floor has a terrific fish store, cheese store etc etc. If you cant shop to take home and cook then there is a good selection of permanent food spots in the market building as well as temporary seasonal booths. On our most recent visit we tried a tasty curry from a stall specializing in dishes from the island of Réunion followed by an ice cream from the Havres aux Glaces stall just outside the market next to the canal. Nearby you could rent a bike and follow the canal or play chess or even play the piano left there for anyone who was interested. You never know what you will find at Attwater: weekends are obviously more lively but there is something to see, taste, smell every day. One of my favourite Montreal spots.

“Atwater Market- A Real Treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

Atwater Market offers the best in local produce and much more.
Along with the outdor stalls there are specialty shops for chocolate and dry goods , spices and sauces, pickles, a bakery, meats and prepared food- pies etc. There is a small outdoor cafe.
The outdoor area also has small tent greenhouses with cut flowers and seasonal plants.

This is a fun place for the senses and a great shopping treat.

“A treat for all the senses”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

Whilst the Jean Talon market may be better known, the Atwater market has lots to make a visit worthwhile. The ground floor has some wonderful food stores notably Les douceurs du marché with every possible grocery item. A little further along Pizza Mia has great pizza by the slice, calzone and macaroons! Upstairs is an extraordinary array of butcher shops along with a branch of the very good Première Moisson bakery chain that also sells salads and sandwiches. The market is surrounded by vegetable and plant stores especially cool around Halloween and Christmas plus there is an outpost of the Havres-aux-glaces ice cream store. The market is just by the canal and a bike path so you could cycle off the calories you consume there.
