“Great B & B in Old Montreal”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

My son and husband and I recently stayed at this B & B for three nights. We had a great experience. The location is perfect - near lots of restaurants and shops. The B& B is very clean and well-kept. The breakfasts were wonderful - the best croissants I have ever eaten, delicious deviled eggs, tasty breads, and a lovely fresh fruit salad. And really good coffee!

There is a lovely courtyard at the front of Auberge Bonsecours with pretty flowers and tables to sit at and enjoy the outdoors away from the street.

This was our second visit and we will certainly stay there again. We were very sorry to leave!

perfectly appointed, with a very lovely and helpful staff. seven rooms of comfort and charm, set well off the road for privacy. there is a lovely terrace for relaxing, both upstairs and downstairs! Staff is very knowledgeable of area and can help with reservations and tickets when needed. in old Montreal, but a couple of blocks from the promenade, so quiet even on the busy holidays! I highly recommend!

Room Tip: number four has it's own entrance to the upstairs terrace...like having your own private terrace...

Full of charm and character, without any of the hassles that can sometimes involve. This auberge is in right in the middle of Old Montreal, set back off the street so that it is very quiet - beautifully presented (so much so that people were regularly taking photographs through the property gates). The staff were very friendly and the wi-fi worked well in our room. It is 15 mins walk to the main bus station and 5 mins walk + 2 stops on the metro to the railway station. All of the old town attractions and sights are within 10 minutes walk. A gem!

Excellent trip. Small number of rooms, boutique hotel, bang in the middle of old Montreal, friendly and personable. Clean and tidy. Wi-fi works fine. Very nice staff. Excellent either for holiday (because so central) or quiet place to stay on business or conference trip. Made all the difference to my stay.

My son and I stayed here while attending a concert in montreal. The locale is very picturesque, and in the heart of old montreal. We took the train to Montreal from Ottawa, and getting from the train to the hotel with the metro was a breeze. Plenty of places to eat around here, and lots of shopping if, if you are so inclined.

The place was very clean, and the staff very helpful. The doors and walls are a little thin, so you may hear sound form other rooms. We heard someone snoring. But it was not so loud that it was disruptive. People chatting in the hallways can be heard in the mornings.

The included breakfast was a simple European style breakfast. The coffee was good and the croissants were fresh.

I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay, and would stay there again.

My wife and I decided to spend our 27th anniversary in Montreal since neither of us had visited as adults. I researched the tremendous variety of accomodations in and around the historic district. Auberge Bonsecours (AB) was not my first choice, but now that we know better we are certainly glad we stayed here.
Historic Montreal is a slightly bizzare place. Buildings are lovely and the cobblestoned streets add to the flavor. However, once you scratch the surface there is little substance. We purchased the museum pass for $60.00 each which gave us unlimited access for three days. We barely used it due to the low quality level of the exhibits. It is also not taken at the main cathedral (separate admission fee) or the art museum (free). I suggest you pass on the pass.
Saint Paul street is the main thoroughfare that intersects the historic district. On the western end it is packed with tourists, overpriced restaurants and crass souvenir stores. Once you cross over the main plaza area, Cartier, the atmosphere improves a lot. Two blocks further west is the AB.
The AB is set back from the street which gives it an oasis feel. However, much to our surprise, at night a restaurant flourishes in the shared courtyard area. It stays loud well into the night. With the windows closed it didn't present much of a problem to us. Keeping the windows open would have been nice but being in this district rather than a quiet suburb has it's trade offs.
A word about management...AB is run by hired staff which limits their flexibility in accomodating guests. Also, the staff leaves at night. We didn't have a problem with this but I have read other reviews where this did become an issue. Be advised that English is not as widely comprehended as one might expect. We did have an issue communicating with the staff via emails and so I telephoned to make certain I was understood. Even so, there was a misunderstanding with the museum passes but the staff we encountered were so pleasant we didn't push the point.
With all this said, we really enjoyed our stay in the hotel itself. Our room (#2) was a nice size and lovely. Breakfast was above average. Staff was positive and helpful. Location was terrific for touring the historic district and beyond.
