The Plateau is one of Montreal's coolest neighbourhoods: amazing restaurants and shops. It's too bad that the Ville de Montreal insists on limiting access to the Plateau. It's such a hassle to navigate (with its myriad of road constructions) or to find any parking spot, that it's hardly worth it visiting. A pity...

I use to live in this section of town and left in 2007. It has changed terribly, people are rude, not friendly. Cars seem to be a pet peeve for the locals. Restaurants are over rated and it has too many bars.

The Plateau used to be a refugee for artist because of the low rents and the proximity of all the small stores and facilities. Through the years, the artists were gradually replaced by snobby posers who made the rents go higher and higher (Gentrification) End results, a lot of snobby restaurants, stores... and the memory of a place that was full of creativity. Now, all you can meet there is the small professional who dresses like a homeless at night to find a meaning to his/her life. Of course, the architecture of the former industrial borough remains which could be interesting for a tourist.

It is nice to visit, but very, very hard to find a place to park your car. Better to use public transport.
