Pros: friendly service; light and tasty fare. Cons: bad seating (high bar stools, tiny counter space; very noisy crowd in a cramped space.

It's a good place, but not for me.

If you're looking for inventive cooking that brings out the no-nonsense, honest flavours of fresh food without too much reliance on sauces to tell the story, consider Pastaga. Rather than split the menu into appetisers and mains, they size all the plates on the small side, and our waiter suggested we order two per person. I ordered three, and unless you're a very light eater I recommend you do the same so you can sample more of the interesting options. I was pleasantly satisfied (not stuffed) at the end of the evening even after adding in half a dozen oysters, a cheese platter, and dessert. The menu changes often, but if the sockeye salmon is available when you visit, don't miss it (the heirloom tomatoes are also remarkably tasty)! I enjoyed investigating some of the interesting wines they have available by the glass.

The solid wood tables show excellent craftsmanship. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very casual, and most of the other guests were hipsters. We had a fun time there as two couples, though for a romantic date I think I would prefer somewhere with a more intimate vibe.

Pastaga is a great place for top-notch chef-quality food. The space is small-ish, but comfortable and bright, with an open kitchen for watching the magic happen. The staff on my recent visit were helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient, but never intrusive.

They have a nice wine selection and fantastic cheeses, but the food is the star here, and it shines brightly

Highly recommended

We enjoyed our meal immensely. The restaurant is lively and cheery. The service, was excellent; our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. He suggested a wonderful wine that was very reasonably priced . The food was delicious, creative and interesting. The menu is limited but changes regularly apparently. Plates are small, 2 per person are suggested.

A restaurant with a fairly limited menu but all of it good, from salads to meat, fish and right through to desert. Combined with an interesting wine list, excellent service, a noise level that could actually accommodate conversation and it all adds up to a lovely dining experience. Definitely a must in Montreal and for those of us who live here, i am already smiling at the thought of going back.
